She was 82. Burial was in Henry cemetery with National Funeral Home of Memphis in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Whitener had been a resident of Memphis for 27 years and resided with her daughter, Mrs. Russell A. Jones at the time of her death. She was the widow of James Thomas Whitener, who was in the real estate and insurance business. In addition to Mrs. Russell Jones, she also leaves three other daughters, Mrs. Walter W. Jones and Mrs. Floyd Harvey of Memphis, and Mrs. George S. Sanders, Clarksdale, MS; her son, Rev. W.L. Whitener, Tishomingo, MS, her sister, Mrs. W.E. Graham, Greenville, TX, and two brothers, Robert Luna, Perrin, TX, and Lunceford Luna, Walnut, MS, and three grandchildren, Mrs. Wayne Hunter, Macon, MS, MRs. VanNoy Haller, Montgomery, AL, and Mrs. Roy Rowe, Jackson, TN. Mrs. Whitener was born in Middleton, TN, daughter of Jeremiah and Molly Yopp. She spent her early life in Tippah Co., MS.
