Your Petitioner Thomas Gordon, Aministrator of the Estate of Ephraim Dixon, deceased would most respectfully present unto Your Honor that there remains Lands, Tenements, and herediments of the Estate of said deceased _et __old of the following description to Wit - the southeast quarter of Section eighteen & the east half of the north east quarter of Section no. nineteen, both of Township four in Range Six East of the base meridian here containing two hundred and thirty-four acres more or less. Your Petitioner would therefore pray your honor to grant Citations to all persons interested in said lands to appear at the April Term of this Honorable Court to show cause, if any they can, why an order shall not be granted authorizing your petitioner to sell the land or as much as it will constantly be in the interest of all persons concerned in the distribution of said deceased Estate as the tract or quantity of the land is so very small that a division of the same among the numerous heirs at law of said Estate would to a great extent diminish its value. Orphans Court of Amite County Your petitioner Sarah Dixon respectfully represents that she is the widow of Ephraim Dixon, des'd late of Amite County That her des'd husband Ephraim Dixon died seized of the following tracts of land, to wit, the South Quarter of section eighteen & the East half of the N. E. Quarter of section nineteen both of township four in range six East of the Basis Meridian containing 237 acres & also the East half of the northwest quarter of section nineteen in Township four, range six east containing 80 acres, all of which my late husband Ephraim Dixon died seized, and to which your petitioner prays the Court to have her Dower set off. 15th August 1831 /m/ Sarah Dixon Signed in presence of T. J. Crawford, Judge Probate Dower of Sarah Dixon State of Mississippi, Amite County Pursuant to an order issued by the Hon. The Orphans Court of the aforesaid county the undersigned commissioners being duly sworn proceeded to lay out by metes and bounds the dower of Sarah Dixon, widow of the late Ephraim Dixon of said county deceased and having viewed the premises do agree that said dower shall consist of 56 acres and 8 tenths of an acre including the mansion house and other improvements and in all respects bounded and designated as appears by the plat hereto assigned, being a part of the S. E. quarter of section No. 19 in township 4 of range 6 east. Given under our hands and seals this 18th day of November, 1831 Attest Henry James - seal Morgan Davis William Burris - seal Sheriff A. C. Joseph Turell - seal John Campbell - seal Henry Flower This plat represents the dower of Sarah Dixon, widow of Ephraim Dixon late of Amite County deceased as laid out by direction of the commissioners whose report is annexed, being a part of the south east quarter of section 18 in townships of range 6 east. Beginning at a stake on the eastern boundary of the section and along the fence from which a hickory bears 8 degrees 61 W 20 links, and a leanwood (?) 5 degrees 32 Et 24 links, and ___ thence as the sectional line north 56 poles and 20 links to a stake supposed to be the original half mile mark, from which a laurel bears N 6 Et of links, and a black gum N 48 degrees 19 links, thence a new line and along an old fence, west, crossing the Pumpkin Patch Creek 160 poles to a stake by the Flower's fence from which a dogwood bears 8 degrees 40 West 4 links and a small pine S. 49 degrees 27 links, thence in a new line South passing the houses & crossing some fences 56 poles and 20 links to a stake from which a pine bears N 76 E 24 links and a red oak S 66 W 23 links, thence East across the plantation, and said creek direct to the beginning containing fifty six acres and 8 tenths of an acre, surveyed 18th Nov, 1831.
