Not much is known of William Montgomery. Apparently, he lived only a very short time after his marriage as his widow was remarried 4 years after her marriage to him. The will of Meredith Bonds gives proof there was a child by William Montgomery when he named a stepson William Montgomery, leaving him a slave (Feb. 1838). As Montgomery married in 1809, he should have showed on the 1810 census but he could have been dead when the census was taken. David Montgomery's family increased over the years showing his family was most likely young. John's family decreased in number of members so that his children could have been arriving at adulthood and leaving the home. He could be the father of our William. Alexander married too late to have had an adult son in 1809. Probate records of Amite showed Robert to be a very wealthy old man who had no wife or children, his estate going to numerous brothers and sisters, one of whom was a deceased brother William who had married Martha Bradshaw and left 6 heirs. (Casey Vol. 3, p.323) This is not our William. There was a William Montgomery who was a Presbyterian minister of Amite Co. from 1800 through at least 1833. See Casey Vol. 2, p.578. This William is not ours. William Montgomery, son of William and Elizabeth (Cain) Montgomery, married 11 Nov 1830 (Amite 2-353 by A.L.
