This is an obituary for Nannie C. Sleeper Evans from the Waco Times-Herald on May 5, 1931, page 7: EVANS, MRS. CHARLES Mrs. Charles Evans died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John T. Willis, 2025 Colcord avenue, at 1:25 p.m. Monday. She was formerly Miss Nannie C. Sleeper, daughter of Isadore and Gardner S. Sleeper. Mrs. Evans was born in Amite county, near Liberty, Miss. She removed to this county when a small girl. Mrs. Evans was married to the late Charles Evans in 1880. Seven children were born, five of whom are living: Will G. Evans of Los Angeles, Charles Evans of La Canada, Calif., Robert M. Evans of Liberty; two daughters, Mrs. John T. Willis and Mrs. James M. Kendrick of Waco; also one sister, Mrs. W. E. Ligon and 12 grandchildren. She was an active member of Columbus Avenue Baptist church. Funeral services will be held from the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. T. Willis at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with Dr. F. B. Thorn officiating. Active pallbearers will be T. M. Sleeper, William Sleeper, Frank Allen, W. B. Thompson, R. F. Gribble, Karl Sherman. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of the Columbus Avenue Baptist church. +++ Nannie Caroline Sleeper Evans was born near Liberty, Amite County, MS. She was the daughter of Gardner Southworth Sleeper and Isadore Elizabeth Causey Sleeper. Nancy Caroline Sleeper, the daughter of Gardner S. and Isadore Sleeper, was baptized by the Rev. William T. Gillespie on Sept. "38", 1861 at the Unity Presbyterian Church of Amite County, Miss. She married Charles Evans, Sr. on Feb. 4, 1880 in McLennan County, Texas. Their marriage was officiated by Rev. Dr. S. A. King, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Waco.
