On Hwy. 5, two miles south of Ashland, approximately one-quarter mile east of the highway pavement, across from Mr. J. L. Mathes’s home. Accessed by a dirt road leading through a pasture, then through thick forest and vegetation. This cemetery was abandoned and nearly lost - far off the nearest road and not visible from the air because of heavy forest growth. Mr. J. L. Mathis, owner of the surrounding land knows of this cemetery (1984). The cemetery was inventoried by David E. Pinson of Garland, TX. in 1984 and after noting the condition of the cemetery and surroundings, notified the Mississippi Historical Society of the importance of this cemetery. Rachel INMAN, mother-in-law to Willis Casey, was born prior to the Revolutionary War, although it appears the earliest recorded tombstone appears to have been that of Kersiah Casey in 1843. Through Mr. Pinson’s diligent efforts (inventorying and mapping of this location), the cemetery may well have been saved from extinction and has been declared a historical site by the State of Mississippi.
