JAMES MILTON WEAVER of Rara Avis, was born October 4, 1853, in Itawamba County, Miss., and is the son of Thomas Peyton Weaver and wife, Margaret (Deavons) Weaver; his paternal ancestors came to Mississippi from South Carolina; maternal from Alabama. Christopher Deavons, the maternal grandfather of the subject of this sketch, was a Baptist minister, and represented Jefferson County, Ala., in the House of Representatives. Mr. Weaver attended the primary schools of Itawamba County under the instruction of Professors Carmack and Gibson; became a school teacher in 1873; taught school twenty-two years; farmer; member of House of Representatives, 1886-1887; County Superintendent of Education of Itawamba County from 1891 to 1899; elected State Senator from Monroe, Lee and Itawamba Counties (Thirty-Eighth District) November 3, 1903. Mr. Weaver is a Democrat; member of the Baptist Church, Clerk; Woodmen of the World; married Martha Texas Sweat, daughter of Noah and wife, Betsy Jane Sweat, or Rara Avis, Miss. Mr. and Mrs. Weaver have nine children: Pinckney Sebastian, Flavius, Effie Lee, C. Exie, Orrin Klipart, Cleta, Eva, Laney Milton and Gaebel.
