The town is now located on plantation land owned by Colonel Frank A. Montgomery. Situated on the Mississippi river, where river boats landed, loaded and unloaded, eventually springing up a settlement bringing General Clark to the area where he lived. He was visited often by Mark Twain while writing "Life on the Mississippi". Beulah was the first county seat in 1866, had a Masonic Lodge, bank, church/school, merchantiles, post office and the newspaper "Bolivar Times" was edited there. Rich in history, some of the decendants of the original settlers still live in the area.
