Mrs. Tharp had been confined to her bed for weeks and at first it seemed that she might recover but as the disease fastens itself more firmly upon her body, friends and loved ones saw her slipping away as the days when by. She had lived to a good age 71 years. Her whole life had been one of sacrifices and service even before she married. She had the care of Flora and Florence Tucker, the afflicted children of Mr. Nelson Tucker whom she afterwards married. She and Mr. Tucker lived together 30 years, and after his death, she married Mr. John Tharp and for 11 years they walked down the pathway of life together. Mrs. Tharp never had any children of her own but raised quite a number of orphaned children, and the two afflicted women she kept with her until her death. She was indeed a true mother to them and during her illness she expressed her regrets in leaving that to children she was then raising, also the other members of her family but said she wanted God's will to be done and she often spoke of the peace and joy that filled her soul. It was not a shadow between her and the heavenly Father and rejoiced with joy unspeakable and full of glory because she realized the presence of the Holy Spirit in her heart for more than half a century she was a member of the Methodist Church, having given her heart to the savior in childhood. When she heard the doctrine of sanctification as the second work of grace preached, she accepted the doctrine and died in the triumphs of faith. Her delight was to attend a camp meeting because she said the campground was the sweetest place on earth to her. She camped there every year so as to enable her to attend all the meetings, and though feeble and health this year she came and spent the 10 days, not withstanding the fact that she was not able to attend every service. When the meeting was over and her tent was folded up ready for departure, how little we expected it was for the last time. She will be greatly missed by us all but we rejoiced to know that she is attending a hole in this camp meeting that will not only last for 10 days, but for eternity God, the father, Jesus, the son, and the Holy Angels with all the blood wash to earth are now her companions. She will be missed by her husband, her sister, the church, a host of friends and no one can take her place with the afflicted once who or heartbroken over their loss. We deeply sympathize with the bereaved ones and pray that the God of all comfort may be their support in this dark hour of sorrow. Soon they can meet their loved ones by the river of life, where God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes, where goodbye is never spoken. A Friend A Card of Thanks I wish to express my sincere thanks to all the neighbors who were so kind during my wife's illness and death. Very truly yours, John Tharp" File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ms/bolivar/newspapers/gnw2mrsmaryt.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/msfiles/ File size: 3.6 Kb
