Sept 19, 2005 after having battled cancer for the last three years. Funeral services were held Wed., Sept 21, 2005. Mr. Rhodes was born Feb. 15, 1938 in Madison Co, TX. He and his wife moved to Calhoun Co. in 2000 after his retirement from BASF Corp. in Freeport, TX, where he worked as a chemical operator. Mr. Rhodes was a past president of the Clute, TX Jaycees. He was also a past vice-president and President of the Angleton, TX Optimist Club, where he was a very strong supporter of the C.H.I.C.K.E.N Club, an anti-drug program for fifth grade students in the Angleton School District. Mr. Rhodes is survived by his wife, Jackie Sutherland Rhodes; one daughter, Kennea Shields and husband Mike of Richwood, TX; one step-daughter, Melissa Kiker and husband Jeff of Waxhaw, NC; two stepsons, Keith Turner and wife Kay of Terrell, TX and Mike Turner. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Jessica Shields, Cassidy Shields, Corey Shields; seven step-grandchildren: Jason Peters, Terrell, TX; Alycia Cruz, Lancaster, SC; Kathleen Bartlett, Dylan Bartlett, Forrest Kiker and Lynn Kiker all of Waxhaw, NC; and Michael Turner of Kaufman, TX; several nieces and nephews in TX and one niece in CA. Mr. Rhodes was preceded in death by his father, Charles Rhodes; mother, Blanche Steele Rhodes; one brother and three sisters. Pryor Funeral Home of Calhoun City, MS was in charge of the services and burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Vardaman, MS. Additional Comments: Pallbearers were Jim Aron, Harold Morgan, Rick Hegwood, Lee Sutherland, John Stowers and Robert Tyler.
