Petal, Miss., March 17 - Perhaps you are not aware of the fact that Petal is the largest town of its size, on the Northeastern railroad. Sit still now until I tell you about it. Petal is one of those staying kind of booms--the kind that make people sit up and tak notice. That we have one of the best, if not the very best schools in the county, is evidenced by the fact that the average is better now than it has been any time during this session. Prof. McDonald is putting his whole heart and soul into the school work, and the patrons proved their appreciation by electing him a few nights ago for a two years term. Got any kids old enough for school? Send them over, and tell your neighbor to do likewise. The Carlys will soon have their large new store house completed, and full to overflowing with fresh goods. Got any money? Come over where you can buy goods right. Assessor McKinnon is having quite an addition made to one of his residences, and also a fresh coat of pain applied. This residence is to be occupied by John Carly. The Freeman Bros. have completed their grist mill, and are now ready to serve the public. Got any corn? Bring it over, and get some old time meal, like mother cooked. Another new enterprise for Petal, is an up-to-date poultry yard, by Geo. W. Wilson. Mr. Wilson has the White Wyandottes, White Rock or Snowdriff, Barred Rock, etc. All from prize winning stock. Drive out some evening and bring your better two-thirds with you, and take a look at Mr. Wilson's stock. We are looking out for a race track here for the county fair fact is, we are expecting it just any day now, by Southern Express. Our Woodman Camp and Maccabees Tent are on the boom. Yes, Petal is doing very well now, thank you.
