NATCHEZ - Funeral services for John H. "Papa John" Clanton, 74, of Natchez, who 
died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center will be at 2 
p.m. Monday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Dr. Edgar Wright 
officiating.

Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 1 p.m. until services at the 
funeral home.

Mr. Clanton was born April 5, 1929, in Franklin County, Mississippi, the son of 
Lee Roy and Velma Ezell Clanton. He was a member of Morgantown Baptist Church 
and retired from Johns-Manville Corporation after 41 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Dewey Clanton, James 
Allen Clanton and Leroy Clanton; and a sister, Anna Belle Strahan.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret A. Clanton of Natchez; two daughters, Kay 
Franks and husband James and Cathy Gamberi, all of Natchez; two grandchildren, 
James Franks Jr. and wife Johnie of Natchez and Misty Sanders and husband Mark 
of Brookhaven; three great-grandchildren, McKenna Franks, Maggie Franks and 
Nash Sanders; three sisters, Emily Scott of Ediceton, Shelita Kennedy of 
Brookhaven and Louise Cupit of Union Church; four brothers, Lamar Clanton of 
Gloster, Oscar Clanton and Billy Clanton of Meadville and Douglas Clanton of 
Brookhaven; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Scott, Randy Cupit, Bruce Clanton, Brian Clanton, 
Mickey Clanton, David Clanton, John Paul Clanton and Donald Clanton.
