Take highway 198 west and go 4.7 miles, where you will come to the highway 98 by-pass. Take a left (west) onto highway 98 heading toward Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Travel 2.5 miles and you will cross over a small bridge, and immediately on your left will be McInnis Lane. Take this left hand turn and go .2 tenths of a mile where you will see this cemetery on your left. The cemetery is located in a small open field. The land owner J.W. McInnis told me that at one time the cemetery was somewhat larger, but years ago someone clearing this land had pushed several headstones off into a marshy branch. Also several years ago a group of visitors came to the cemetery and had a ceremony where they said that the Charlotte (Lee) Ball who is buried here, is the sister of Gen. Robert E. Lee. Efforts have been made to authenticate this information, but all to no avail. The cemetery was walked on the 8th of January 2009 by Jimmy Trussell, information being taken for all existing headstones. Last Name First Name Middle Name Birth Death Comment -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ball William 1860 Ball Charlotte (Lee) 1755 1869 w/o William Bartholomew Ball Ball William Bartholomew 1777 1860 h/o Charlotte (Lee) Ball Woodard Jesse 1849 Baby Marker Woodard Wesley M. 1857 Baby Marker Ball Mellisa 1856 1872 Ball Martha July ???? 10-24-1867 W/O Henry A. Ball Additional Comments: The two stones , William Ball and Charlotte (Lee) Ball are identical in the materials they are made from and the crude engraving is the same on each headstone. I take these should be the original headstones for William Bartholomew and Charlotte, the other william Bartholomew Ball headstone is a recent headstone that was erected several years ago. It was placed between the two above mentioned stones. the inscription on this new William Bartholomew Ball Headstone, has the following inscription: Son of Edward & Rebecca Ball. Husband of Charlotte (Lee) Ball. Parents of: James S. ; Edward M. ; Sarah ; Eliza ; William D. ; Bartholomew ; Susan ; Margaret ; Harriet and Henry A.
