This will be the intersection with Old Highway 26 on your left. Take this left hand turn and now you will go 2.9 miles. Take a right hand turn here onto River road, going .2 tenths of a mile. When you have crossed the bridge there is a road on your left. Take this left hand turn onto Pee Wee Miller road, going now 2.0 miles. Here there will be a house on your left and an old barn on your right. The Bates Cemetery is located behind and to the right of this old barn about 50 yards into the woods. Permission to visit the cemetery should be obtained at the house across the street from this barn. This cemetery was forgotten for many years, Mr. Jimmy Bates told me the last time he remembers going to this cemetery was as a young boy, shortly after World War-2. He went with his father and a couple uncles and they poured some concrete slabs and cleaned up. In late 2007 Mr. Jimmy Bates returned to the area with a distant relative in search of the cemetery. They were able to locate it for the first time in nearly 60 years. The cemetery was walked on the 4th of March 2008 by Jimmy Trussell and Jimmy Bates, information was taken from headstone inscriptions.
