Although in ill health for several years, her recent illness dated from June, when she sustained injuries from a fall which confined her to her room for four months and finally resulted in her death. Possessed of very strong will power she made a fight for recovery, never giving up, and engaged in her newspaper work almost up to the time of her death. Miss Abarr was born at White Chapel, Ill., September 10, 1852, and when a child moved with her parents to Old Mexico and then to Texas, where her girlhood was spent. She began newspaper work over thirty years ago, when the family moved to Memphis, where Miss Abarr began her career as a writer. Miss Abarr moved to the Gulf Coast in 1891, residing first at Pass Christian and afterwards purchasing a home and settling at Long Beach. Miss Abarr owned a farm north of Long Beach, on which she built a small church, known as 'Sunshine Church,' for the Woman's Home Mission Society of the Methodist Church, of which she was an ardent member. She was an active member of the circle of King's Daughters and a leader in charitable work. Her father died three years ago and she leaves as her only immediate relative her mother who is 79 years of age. The funeral took place at three o'clock yesterday from the Methodist Church and the interment was in the Long Beach cemetery." Additional Comments: Mary Abarr was born on September 11, 1852 in Illinois. She was the daughter of Richard Lafayette Abarr (1821-1907) and Nancy H. Abarr (1830-1914).
