"DEATH CAUSES PROFOUND SORROW"

"There has not been a death in the vicinity of Biloxi in recent years which has
caused more profound sorrow than that of Miss Dorothy Folkes, the fourteen(sic) year
old daughter of Dr. and Mrs. H. M. Folkes, who died at Nazareth College, Kentucky,
yesterday morning. When the news was first received regarding the serious illness of
the young lady, Dr. and Mrs. Folkes and daughter, Miss Josephine, immediately
prepared to go to her bedside but they had not gotten any further than Mobile when
it was necessary for them to return to Biloxi as their beloved one had passed to the
great beyond. Not only did Biloxians receive news of the death with deepest regret,
but they were even more sorrowful when it was learned that the immediate relatives
were unable to reach her bedside. Her sister, Miss Anna, who went to College with
her last week, was at her bedside continuously during her illness. Miss Dorothy was
born and reared in Biloxi where she grew up under the tender care of Christian
parents, and was regarded as one of the brightest young women of the city. She made
numerous friends by her sweet and jovial disposition, in school and about the city.
The fourteen(sic) years of her life seemed to have been lived in happiness. She had
every care and most tender affection from her parents and other loved ones, and was
held in the highest esteem by her numerous friends in this and other cities and by
her college mates, with whom she was a favorite. Surviving her are a mother and
father, two sisters, Misses Josephine and Anna. Miss Anna will accompany the body
home. Funeral arrangements had not been completed at the noon hour, the entire
family having been prostrated from the death of this beloved child. The body is
expected to reach Biloxi tonight at 6:54 o'clock. A sister from the college she was
attending will accompany Miss Anna and the body, which will arrive in Biloxi tonight
on train No. 1 at 6:54 o'clock. The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning
at 9 o'clock at the Church of the Nativity and interment will be made in the Biloxi
cemetery."

Additional Comments:
Dorothy was born on January 10, 1912.  She was the daughter of Dr. Hyman Follkes
(1871-1926) and Teresa Lopez (1873-1951).  She died from diphtheria.
