Carl Torries, age 83, of Gulfport, died March 2, 2008 in Ridgeland, MS. Peter Anthony Lestelle, 72, of Clermont Harbor, died March 2, 2008. He was born in New Orleans, LA. Ladner & Marius C. Ladner. Private burial: St. Mary Cemetery, Bay St. Louis. Mrs. Debra L. Noble, 53, of Biloxi, died March 2, 2008. Linda Tyler, 63, of Pass Christian, died March 2, 2008. Col. John Hull Statts, USAF Ret., 89, of Gastonia, NC, died March 2, 2008. He was a native of Elmira, NY, and was the son of the late Albert Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Hull Statts. After a thirty year military career beginning in the Royal Canadian Air Force, he retired in ceremonies at Headquarters, Southern Communications Area (AFCS). He was presented the Meritorious Service Medal having served as South Comm's deputy chief of staff for flight facilities since July 1967. Colonel Statts began his military career in August, 1941, as one of many American members of the RCAF. Following Pearl Harbor he transferred to the U.S. Army and joined the aviation cadet program in September 1942. During WWII, he flew 70 B-26 missions over Europe. One of his most interesting assignments was as commander of the 17th Troop Carrier Squadron from 1962-66. The 17th flies the only ski-equipped C-130s in the Air Force and has a unique mission of supplying stations on the Arctic ice cap. Colonel Statts received many medals and decorations during his career including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Combat Air Medal. After retiring he acquired his Masters degree in History. He was sent to Herndon-Pharr Funeral Home in Hope, AR for services and burial. Mar 3 Joseph Maurice Blais, age 85 of Gulfport, died March 3, 2008. Mr. Blais served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. (no cemetery listed) Lionel "Nellie" Creel, 90, of Biloxi died March 3, 2008. Lionel was the owner of Fisherman's Hangout, Back Bay, Biloxi. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Oliver Creel, daughter Sandra Ann Creel, son, Baby Boy Creel, his parents, Roland J. Creel, Sr. and Helen Creel, a sister, Alvera Lawrence, brother, Junius Creel, Sr. Interment: Biloxi City Cemetery. Charles Larry Dale, died March 3, 2008. He was born to John and Mildred Dale in Paris, TN on May 31, 1939. Larry had a twenty-year career in the Air Force, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel with the Strategic Air Command. Fred joined the United States Army and retired after 21 years of active duty. He served in 7 campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Central Europe, Rhineland, and Korea where he earned 14 medals and 4 overseas bars including the silver star, the bronze star, and the Purple Heart. Fred's last assignment was Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Interment: Biloxi National Cemetery with full military honors. (no death date on obit) Ernest "Bones" Craig, age 75, of Kiln, died March 6, 2008. Mr. Craig served in United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was ordained into full time Gospel Ministry serving on the staff at Michael Memorial Baptist Church and in 2003, he became the Senior Pastor at Belaire Baptist Church and served in that capacity until his death. Serving his country in the U.S. Air Force. He retired in July 1983 from military service as a captain after 20 years. Mr. Bell was preceded in death by his parents, Marian and Walter Bell; a brother, David Bell; and a sister, Judy Bell. A celebration of his life will be held at the Funeral Home. Ray Anthony "Tony" Graham, 48, of Moss Point, died March 20, 2008, at Singing River Hospital, following an industrial accident at Northrop Grumman on March 12th. Born on July 15, 1959 in New Orleans, La., to the late Edward Ray and Joy Vernice Graham. He was a Quality Assurance Inspector for Northrop Grumman, and started at the shipyard on his 18th birthday. Gene was a native of Cullom, IL He served in the U.S. Army as a ranger in the 82nd Airborne. Dalgo, Sr., 81, died March 21, 2008, born Jan. 18, 1927. He joined the United States Merchant Marines at the age of 17 and served his country 16 years, helping supply troops around the world. In 1976, he opened Crown Dodge Chrysler in Pascagoula, which he owned and operated with his wife, Mattie. He was instrumental in securing the site for the Seaman's Memorial on the beach in Ocean Springs. Preceding him in death were his parents, Angelo Dalgo and Grace Canaan Dalgo of Biloxi. Michelini (U.S. Air Force Retired), 83, was born in Hillsboro, Ill, on March 6, 1925. He joined the United States Army Air Corps at the age of 17. He served in the Air Force for 23 years and his duty stations included Panama, Germany, France and numerous Air Force Bases throughout the United States. U.S. Army Corps Detachment 7th Army, 98, died March 24, 2008 in Stantonville, TN. She was born in Vacherie, LA & was a longtime resident of Waveland, MS before moving to Stantonville, TN in December 2007. In 1942 the Womens Army Corps was founded which is when she enlisted. She served in World War II in General Pattons Army. She was sent to Portland, ME where she was attached to the first aircraft fighter wing squad for 6 months then went overseas and sailed on the SS Queen Elizabeth which had been converted to a troop ship. Then she was transported to England and Paris and at that time envoked and became attached to air sea & land operations with George C. Patton 7th Army being fluent in French. She began doing message decoting of secret and confedential messages & documents which ended in Heidelberg Germany. In December 1945 she received an Honorable discharge and came home after the war. She was a member of the American Legion post #77 in Waveland, MS. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Mar 28 James Forrest Fargason, Jr., 75, died March 28, 2008. Mr. Fargason, a native of Memphis, TN, had resided in Old Mandeville, LA for the past 25 years. While living in Gulfport, Mr. Fargason was elected President of the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce and assisted in founding the Harrison County Tourism Commission. Interment will be private. Guy Morrison "Binx" Walker, philosopher, historian, economist and inventor, died Friday night, March 28, 2008, in Ocean Springs, MS. He was born July 8, 1923, the son of Merle Royse "Ole" Walker and Elinor Ritter Walker and the grandson of Guy Morrison Walker and Minnie Royse Walker and Halsted Ritter and Grace May Ritter. Because of his poor vision, he had to make great efforts during WWII to reach the European Theater where he waded ashore at Normandy Beach, fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of Paris. He carried a shrapnel wound after the war. Preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, his brother F.H. "Nibs" Walker and former wife Carolyn Missman Walker.
