William Dee "Bill" Young, 70, of Gulfport died Tuesday, May 27, 2008 in Gulfport. He was born June 21, 1927 in Noxapater, MS. to Edgar and the late Inez Young. He attended Higgins High School in Clarksdale, MS. Received Masters degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA; Bachelor of Theology degree obtained from Andersonville Baptist College and Seminary in Camilla, GA; Master and Doctorate of Theology degrees obtained from Union Baptist Seminary in New Orleans, LA. He has been in the ministry since the age of 24. President of the Urban League of St. Paul, MN; Community chaplain for the Council of Churches in St. Paul; served a a member of the Board of Directors of the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Miss. and in the Gulf Coast District Assn. and Director of the Fannie L. Nichols Institute. Worked at WTAM, radio Station and Social Services Administrator with GCCAA Headstart. Taught at Harrison Central High School, instructor at Philips Junior College, managed Edgewood Manor Apartments, Commissioner with the Miss. Public Service Commission - Southern District and Board member of the Miss. State Parole Board. He was associate pastor of Pilgrim Baptist Church, St. Paul, MN, Pastor of Sunlight Baptist Church, McHenry, MS and Pastor of 1st Missionary Baptist Church, Pass Christian for 26 years.
