ARMITAGE FOR SUPERVISOR The following article from the “Southern City” a magazine devoted to the development and progress of southern cities, counties and states attests the popularity of Philip H. Armitage present Mayor of Raymond and one of the leading candidates for Supervisor of the fourth district of Hinds county. Mayor Philip H. Armitage of Raymond, Miss., manager of the extensive Gaddis farms and widely known and popular Mississippian, has announced as a candidate for the Hinds county Board of Supervisors from the fourth district, it has been learned. Mr. Armitage has a long record of distinguished service. His experience as a public officer began with his appointment as alderman of the Town of Raymond to fill out an unexpired term. Reelected, he served a second tern as Alderman until his election as Mayor. He since has been twice reelected the last two terms without opposition. During Mayor Armitage’s three terms, 66 2-3 percent of the city’s obligations which he inherited have been reduced 33 1-3 percent and enough money now remains in the city treasury to run Raymond through this year and the next without any further tax levy or assessment, should the Mayor or Board of Aldermen decide such a course to be advisable.
