Samuel C. Smith, aged 88 years. Col. Smith removed from Virginia to the Raymond neighborhood at an early period, (prior to 1840, and lived on his plantation here until about 1879 or 1880, when he removed with his sons to the delta. He was a West Pointer, we believe, and a man of learning and true nobility of character. Connected with some of the best families in Virginia and in our own Mississippi, he was ever a gentle- man, and ever commanded the respect and confidence of all who knew him. He dies much lamented by a very large circle of relatives and friends who delighted in recognizing him as friend and associate in days and times now numbered with the past. May the grass grow green and the flowers ever bloom over the grave of our deceased friends.
