Gillespie of Raymond, Miss., in collaboration with, Mrs. John R. Anderson, Historian General of the United Daughters of the Confederacy Confederate Museum Richmond, Va. “White House of the Confederacy” HISTORICAL EVENING _________ Municipal Auditorium, Jackson, Miss. Thursday, November 21, 1946 8:00 P.M. _________ AN AFTERNOON AT THE WHITE HOUSE OF THE CONFEDERADY A Pageant Taken From “A CONFEDERATE PLAY’ Written by Mrs. Hugh Gillespie, of Raymond, Miss. In Collaboration with Mrs. John R. Anderson, of Raleigh, N.C. Directed by Mesdames Hugh Gillespie and Beatrice Boyett. ____________ This pageant is presented to represent a pretty picture of the Confederacy in Richmond, showing the life of women in official circles. It was during the early days of the Southern Confederacy, when, as one European wrote to his friend, ‘THE SOCIAL LIFE AT THE CAPITOL OF THE CONFEDERACY EQUALS ANYTHING IN EUROPEAN COURTS.’ As, always during any was periods, there was a foreboding of disaster, but at this time life was very pleasant at the White House of the Confederacy. The time is the early fall of 1862, when the Confederacy was at its best, following victories around Richmond. The setting and conversation is historically authentic, facts being taken, in part from book of this period. Narrator ……..Beatrice Boyett.
