Under the picture is the inscription “M.E. Church, South, Jackson, Mississippi; erected in 1838,” and the note below, “E. v. Seutter, jeweler and artist,” the photographer. The church was on the site of the present Galloway Memorial church, and was the first church of any denomination built in the capital city. Congregations organized and held services prior to that time, but none had their own church building until later.
