It was also at this time the members of the order in Clinton erected a lodge. The following is an excerpt from the “Hinds County Gazette” April 29, 1857 recounting the festivities surrounding the dedication of the lodge and cemetery. “The ceremonies closed at the church, the procession was again formed, and proceeded a short distance from the village (Clinton), to the grounds set apart for the “Odd Fellows’ Rest”. Arrived at the spot, the fraternity with measured tread, and with solemn strains from the Band, encircled the enclosure; Then, in the stillness of that forest “Rest”, proceeded the beautifully appropriate ceremonies of consecration, conducted by Judge Shackleford and Rev. C.
