Scale 100 poles per inch The State of Mississippi} Itawamba County} I WILLIAM DOWNS County Surveyor for said county do certify that I have surveyed for as Dower for ELIZABETH CHILDERS widow of H. W. CHILDERS late of said county now deceased in the following lands to wit All that portion of the N E 1/4 of Section 24 conveyed to and belonging to said dec'sd and all of Section 13 all the said land lying in the county of Itawamba and State of Mississippi in Township No. 7 of Range 6 Six East of the bases Mandian [sic] of the Chickasaw Survey. The Dower attached to said widow by the COMssrs. approved by your hand count as follows to wit: all of the twenty five acres lot above allotted to and all of the SE 1/4 of Section 13 except 25 poles from East to west across said quarter section being in all one hundred and sixty nine acres and eighty poles to her the said widow as dower. Said dower being laid off by Metes and Bounds as follows: Beginning at the S E corner of said Section 13 and running N 135 poles Thence W 172 poles, thence S 135 poles, Thence E 172 poles to the Beginning containing six hundred and forty four acres eighty poles and all the land belonging to said H. W. CHILDERS in the N E 1/4 of Section 24 Bounded by the two creeks as designated in the Deed to said Dec'sd. Surveyed March 1st AD, 1854. /s/ H. W. BATES} /s/ Wm. MOORE Clerk Transcriber's Notes: There is a plat drawing to the left of "*This 1/4 section contains 111 acres and 61 poles" with lines identified as the "Chickasaw Mandian" (Meridian) intersected by the "Polar Mandian" (Meridian) running along from top to bottom on the left and as the "Range line" on the right of a drawn square. Beginning at the left bottom corner of the square, written along the drawn lines are the words in quotes: "E 172 poles" (which would be west to east); on the right hand side (which would be south to north) "N 135 poles"; at the top (which would run from east to west) "W 172 poles"; and on the left side (which would run north to south) "S 135 poles", noted by "1/4 S post", which is the place of beginning. All three, ELIZABETH and HENRY W. CHILDERS and JOHN RAINS (one of the signers of the survey) were our great-great grandparents. MARY C. CHILDERS, the daughter of ELIZABETH and HENRY W. CHILDERS, married JOHN M. BOREN on May 16, 1855, and she became a widow when JOHN was killed October 8, 1862, at Perryville, Kentucky.
