Hinds of the other part of the same county and state Witnesseth that the said Joseph Woodruff as sherriff having levied on the south half of the north East quarter of Section Thirty Township Nine Range Nine East of land lying and being in Itawamba County and State of Mississippi as the property of Joshua S. Barnard [Barriard/Barriand?] by virtue of a process of Execution and to satisfy the amount thereof namely ...[and?] of Circuit Court of Itawamba County on the 13th day of April 1852 Issued 15th May 1852 in favor of Bennet B. Ross against the goods lands &c of Joshua S. Barnard [Barriard?] and having duly advertised the day and place of sale did on the first Monday in October AD 1852 at the Court house of said county of Itawamba according to law Expose the said above described land to Public Auction for cash and then and there James C. Hinds became the highest and last bidder and purchaser thereof at and for the sum of thirty one dollars and 50/100 which James C. Hinds then and there ...[preasantly?] paid to said Joseph [the word Joseph is lined out] Woodruff as such Sherriff as aforesaid in consideration of the promises [premises?] does hereby bargain sell grant alien and convey to the said Hinds the said parcel or tract of land so sold to him to have and to hold the tract aforesaid with the appurtenances thereunto belonging to the said Hinds and his heirs and assigns forever and the said Joseph Woodruff as Sherriff as aforesaid does warrant and will defend the same to the said Jas C Hinds and his heirs &c forever to quit of the right Title and interest of the said Joshua S. Barnard [Barrand?] both in Law and Equity and of all and every one claiming or to claim under or through him so far as he the said Joseph Woodruff Shff by virtue of the process proceeding selling and purchase aforesaid and the law in such case can or may warrant and defend but only officially and in no other manner or degree what=ever In witness whereof the said Joseph Woodruff as Shff as aforesaid hereto sets his name and seal on the day and year first aforesaid.
