Berry Lou Perkins Davis, 81, of Ponchatoula, LA, June 2, 2008; born Jan. 8, 1927, in Brooklyn, MS. She was the daughter of the late Edna Mae and W.A. Perkins Sr. and wife of the late Rev. M.L. Davis Sr. Service: Mount Pleasant Methodist Church, Vancleave, MS. Interment: Mount Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. John "Jack" Frederick Laufketter, of Ocean Springs, MS, died June 2, 2008, in Ocean Springs. He was born August 19, 1926, and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. After graduating from Webster High School, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany during World War II during which he attained the rank of Technical Sergeant 4th Grade (Sgt T/4) and was decorated with the Combat Infantry Badge. After completing his military service with the 90th Infantry Division, also known as the Tough 'Ombres, he was employed as a patrolman with the Clayton Police Department. He retired after 25 years and then worked for fifteen years as a deputy for the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office and a bailiff for Judge Robert Campbell. During his career, he earned numerous awards as an expert marksman. In 1990, he retired to Ocean Springs with his wife of 57 years to be near his children. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Ocean Springs Hospital Auxiliary where he accumulated over 3,000 hours of volunteer service. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Pearl Laufketter, his wife, Sally Eleanor Steward Laufketter, and his son, John Stephen Laufketter. Sharon Nell Pavolini, 67, of Ocean Springs, died June 2, 2008. Preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Inez Ryan Pavolini, and a brother, David Louis Pavolini. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery. June 3 Mr. Edwin E. Burt, III, age 88, of Vancleave, MS, died June 3, 2008, in Gautier. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Area. Service: Bonnie Chapel UMC, Vancleave. Chase was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 26, 1984, until his family moved to Ocean Springs in 1998. He was also a proud member of the National Guard Airborne. Larry Wayne Moran, age 62 of Gautier, MS, died June 3, 2008. Born September 21, 1945 in Gulfport, MS. He served two terms on the Gautier Civil Service Commission and subsequently assumed Chairmanship of the Planning Commission which he held until his death. Mrs. Dorothy Webb Stanton, 62, of Moss Point, MS, died June 3, 2008 in Pascagoula, MS. June 4 Mr. Robert B. "Bob" Ross, age 76, of Vancleave, MS., died June 4, 2008, in Vancleave. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Emmons Ross, mother, Ethel Rice Breitenbach, father, Louis Breitenbach and grandson, John Tyler Ross. Private services will be held at a later date. C. Howard Heflin Sr. 78 of Grand Bay, AL, died June 4, 2008 in Pascagoula, MS; born January 27, 1930 to the late Cedric and Verna Heflin in Detroit Michigan. He served in the United States Air Force. June 6 Myra Jane Manasco, age 48, of Moss Point, MS, died June 6, 2008 in Pascagoula; born Feb. 21, 1960, in Laurel, MS; living in Collins, MS, and Houston, TX, before moving to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 2005. A private celebration of Myra's life will be held graveside at a later date. Michele Nicole (George) Stork, 25, of Brandon, MS, died June 6, 2008, in Brandon. She was born Feb. 23, 1983, in Exeter, New Hampshire. She is survived by her husband, Danny and her son. Graveside service: Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Wildfork, AL. June 8 John Alan Bishop, Jr., age 33, born on July 12, 1974, in Pascagoula. He died near his home in Pass Christian in a tragic car accident. Mass of Christian Burial: Holy Family Catholic Church (Lourdes), Menge Avenue, Pass Christian. Oliver Earl Bryant, a native of Bayou La Batre, and a resident of Mobile, AL, and Pascagoula, MS, died June 8, 2008. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy in the Pacific theatre during WWII. After his honorable discharge in 1946, he worked as an engineer for Palmer and Baker, before constructing boats on his own in Bayou La Batre. There, he built some of the first all steel shrimp boats on the Gulf Coast and constructed the first all aluminum tug boat with a welded hull, the Sumter. Later his engineering skills led him to Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, where he served as superintendent of the nuclear submarine program for many years. Additionally, Mr. Bryant constructed boats in Nigeria and Ghana for the United States State Department before resuming his engineering career in Pascagoula. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Earl (Skipper) Bryant, mother, Maggie T. Bryant, his sister, Margaret Lyon and his second wife, Shirley Ferchaud Bryant of Pascagoula. Died June 8, 2008, in Tulsa, OK. Preceded in death by his father, James T. Roberson Sr., and one sister, Edna Mae (Darlene) Liggins. Interment: First Baptist Cemetery, Escatawpa, Miss. Henry D. "T-Boy" Taylor, died June 8, 2008. He was born March 9, 1921, to Marvel Taylor and Sabra Smith Taylor who preceded him in death. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was stationed in North Africa and Italy and served until the end of WWII. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, June Necaise Taylor; two sisters, three brothers, his infant son, Craig Taylor, and his grandson, Tony Lynn Taylor. She taught Sunday school classes for more than 65 years at Highland Baptist Church in Meridian, Highland Baptist Church in Laurel and First Baptist Church in Pascagoula and was a leader in missions and church training. "Bob" Maxwell, age 88, of Ocean Springs, MS. died June 13, 2008, in Biloxi. He joined the Army Air Corps where he was trained as a glider pilot, later as a tail gunner, and turent machine gunner serving in the European Theater. He received the Purple Heart, the Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the victory medal and four wounded ducks. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Edna Mae Evers Maxwell, sons, Bradley Karl Maxwell and Robert Lynd Maxwell II, and his parents, Carl and Myrtle Morris Maxwell. Mr. Wright was born Jan. 23, 1933, in Caleasieu, LA. He served nine years in the U. S. Air Force from 1951 to 1960 as an aircraft radar maintenance technician and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. June 15 Dr. Charles Houston (Catfish) Allen, beloved Mississippi and Alabama physician, died Sunday, June 15, 2008 shortly after his 78th year. Born in D'Lo, Simpson County, MS, to Gracie Corine Allen and Charles Allen, Sr. Dr. Allen served with distinction in Korea. Interment: Pinola Cemetery, Simpson County, MS. Kizzie R. McQueen, died June 15, 2008 in Ocean Springs, MS, at the age of 89. Born January 5, 1919 in Leathathie, AL to the late Isaiah and Lula Roper. Her education was received in the Leathathie School System. Kizzie was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Jessie J. McQueen on May 15, 1938 sharing 46 years of matrimonial bliss until Jessie's death April 25, 1985. She was preceded in death by her husband: Jessie J. June 19 Emmett Corlew Jr., 69, died June 19, 2008. He was born Jan. 16, 1939, to Emmett Corlew Sr. and Margaret Swann Corlew of Pascagoula, MS. June 20 Danny Ray Lewis, age 59, of Gautier, MS died June 20, 2008. Mr. Lewis was born the youngest of thirteen children on September 7, 1948 to the late Walter and Brilliant Lewis in Huntington, West Virginia. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. In addition to his parents he was preceded is death by eight siblings, Thomas, Norman, Jack, Mac, David, Charlie, Watseka, and Dorothy.Entombment: Jackson County Memorial Park with military honors. Linda Lou Murrah, age 63 of Pascagoula, died June 20,2008 in Pascagoula, MS. She was born September 19,1944 in Philadelphia, MS, was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church in George County. Mrs. Murrah had retired from the Jackson County Circuit Clerks office after 24 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents; Joseph Willie and Sadie Roberts, her husband; Don (Somkey) M. Marrah and one grandson Matthew Lambert. Gravesite services: Shady Grove Cemetery in George County, MS. Shirley Ann Smothers Selmon, born July 31, 1961, to the late Silas and Annie Mae Smothers. Died June 20, 2008. She was preceded in death by her two great nephews, Timother Terrell Smothers Jr. and Wyshiah Smothers and one great niece, Lia Smothers. Interment: Gabriel Cemetery, Pascagoula, MS. June 21 Ruby Lee Dickey Hayes age 79, of Ocean Springs, MS, died June 21, 2008 in Ocean Springs. Funeral service: Corinth Church on Herndon Road, rural Leakesville, MS. Jerome Jordan Sr., born on Sept. 1, 1955, in Newton County, MS, to the late Pringle Jordan Sr. and Zeola Lindsey Jordan. Died June 21, 2008. He was a 1973 graduate of Moss Point High School. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army. After being honorably discharged, he began to work at Ingalls Shipbuilding, the city of Moss Point and Singing River Hospital. He later moved to Marrero, La., where he passed on. He was preceded in death by his father, Pringle Jordan Sr., and his sister, Lottie Hye. Interment: Restlawn Cemetery, Avondale, LA. Mrs. Mae Helen Ramsay, died June 21, 2008, at the Arbor Rose Residential Center, Farmerville, La. Born the youngest daughter of nine children, Mae Helen grew up in rural Leakesville, Miss. She was preceded in death by all of her eight siblings, her mother and father, Louis O. and Rena Bell Hillman, her husband, Claude Elwood Ramsay, and son, Lanny E. Ramsay. Mae Helen married Claude Ramsay on June 14, 1941, and they lived on the Mississippi coast and raised six children. In 1965, Mae Helen and Claude moved the family to Jackson, Miss., where she was an active member of Parkhill Baptist Church and Providence Presbyterian Church. After Claude passed away in 1986, Mae Helen moved back to the Franklin Creek area to live in a small house built by son Frank. She attended the Franklin Creek Baptist Church, and spent a great deal of time with family and long time friends. Funeral service: Corinth Church on Herndon Road, rural Leakesville, MS. Burial: Hillman Cemetery. June 22 Mr. Clare B. Fowler, age 84, of Vancleave, MS died Sunday June 22, 2008 in a local hospital. Born April 7, 1924 in Gilroy, CA to the late Ralph and Mildred Wolfe Fowler, he had been a resident of Vancleave since 1975. Mr. Fowler was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and proudly served during World War II. Interment: Biloxi National Cemetery. Mrs. Marie A. Martin, 76, of Ocean Springs, MS, died June 22, 2008, in Ocean Springs. Mrs. Martin was a resident of the community for 33 years. She was a native of Matawaska, Maine, and a devoted Navy wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Lena Cyr and a brother, Ernie Cyr. Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery. Richard Earl Roberts, 82, died June 22, 2008, was born May 9, 1926 and lived his entire life in the Orange Grove Community of Jackson County. He retired in 1985 as a Supervisor at International Paper Company in Moss Point after 43 years of service. He was a proud veteran of World War II in which he served aboard the USS New York BB34 Battleship. He saw action at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Earl is preceded in death by his parents Nollie and Vera Hill Roberts; his first wife and mother of his children, Loyce Strength Roberts; a daughter Judy Roberts Brewster (Ron); and sisters, Infant Alice Irene Roberts and Vera Jean Roberts Jones (Marvin). He is survived by his second wife, Nan. Earl will be laid to rest in Orange Grove Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be his shipmates from the USS New York, all of whom were honored guests at the March 1, 2008 christening of the new USS New York LPD-21 built by Northorp Grumman in Pascagoula. Ronnie Spencer Roberts, of Ocean Springs was born June 5, 1943 in Pascagoula, died June 22, 2008. Ronnie graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1961 . Clark Memorial Cemetery, Forts Lake, MS. David Brian Richards, 53, of Pascagoula, MS, died June 21, 2008. Harry M. Rummage, 79, of Pascagoula, MS, died Monday, June 23, 2008, at his residence. He was born May 4, 1929, in Quimby, LA. Mr. Rummage was a veteran of the United States Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant where he served in the Vietnam War. He also served in Korea, Japan and Saudi Arabia. June 25 Josephine "Sally" Thorp, 62, of Vancleave, June 25, 2008, in Ocean Springs, Miss. She was born in Vancleave on June 10, 1946. Ms. Thorp is reunited with her mother, Mary Jane Jenning; her father, Elisha Waltman; and brother, Elvin Waltman. Burial: Vancleave Holiness Church Cemetery with service at graveside. Mr. Elmer Lee Wallace, age 82 of Big Point, MS, died June 25, 2008 in Pascagoula, MS. He was born November 1, 1925 in Wallaceton, KY. Mr. Wallace was a WWII veteran and fought in Patton's 3rd Army. He was preceded in death by his parents Elias and Esther (Ball) Wallace; brother Dallas Wallace; sister Alice "Sis" Palmer; granddaughter, Katherine Michelle Stephenson; brother in law Leon Johnson; nephews Dallas Wallace, Jr. and Harold Anglin. Memorial service: H. W. funeral home chapel. June 26 Belinda Kay (Roach) Ladnier, 38, of Helena, MS, died June 26, 2008. Belinda was born on Dec. 9, 1969, in Pascagoula, to Aubrey and Carrie Roach. George Halliday Hopf-Lovette, formerly of Pascagoula, MS, died after a brief illness at Kaiser Hospital, Redwood City, Calif. A 1963 graduate of Moss Point Central High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Deborah Lovette and his brother, William Lovette of Pascagoula. He is survived by his wife and son of San Rafael, Calif. He was born in Louisville, MS. Prentiss served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Reed is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Ozella Elizabeth Leavins Reed; a son, Michael Reed; sisters, Vera Williamson, Vada Loyd and Viola Johnson; brothers, Carl Reed and Horace Reed and his parents, Amzie Price and Eva Houston Reed. Interment: D'Iberville Memorial Park. June 28 Martha Potts Griffin, 77, of Pascagoula, died on June 28, 2008 in Pascagoula, MS. She was born on December 12, 1930 in Aliceville, AL. She was a member in the Auxiliaries of Veteran of Foreign Wars 3373, American Legion 160, and American Ex-Prisoners of War. Mrs. Griffin was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John B. Griffin, Jr.; her parents, Easton and Mary Francis Potts; sister, Lois Montgomery; brother, Raymond Potts. Interment: Biloxi National Cemetery. Mr. Floyd K. Jermyn, 72, of Ocean Springs, died June 28, 2008, in Ocean Springs. Born in Biloxi, he was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. Preceding him in death were his daughters, Elizabeth and Frances Jermyn, and parents, Vance and Iola Hester Jermyn. Burial: Crestlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Sandra Y. Morgan, age 61, died June 28, 2008, in Ocean Springs; born in Hattiesburg and had been a lifelong resident of the MS Gulf Coast. She was a 1965 graduate of Long Beach High School.Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her parents, Burrell and Allyne Young; brother, Butch Young; previous husbands; H. Glenn Whorton, John L. Morgan; best friend, Margie Foster; and her beloved dog, Rotten. A private burial will be held at a later date. Alvin Reaux Jr, 57, of Moss Point died June 28, 2008. He was born August 31, 1954 in Nassawadox, VA. He was preceded in death by his father Austin McCrady; adoptive father Herbert Amey; sister Karen McCrady and brother Paul McCrady.
