Interment: Scranton Cemetery. Apr. 2 Mollie Mae Gottschalck Barron, age 87, of Pascagoula, died April 2, 2008. Born December 1, 1920 in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Mobile, AL, then moved to Pascagoula after marrying Tennyson Harris Barron. As a young girl, Mrs. Barron played the role of "Darla" in the "Little Rascals" movies before losing her hearing at the age of eight years old. Mrs. Barron was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Ethel Gottschalck; her loving husband of 55 years, T. H. Barron; two daughters, Patricia Ann Barron and Ethelyn Mae Barron Hays. Interment: Mobile Memorial Gardens in Mobile, AL. Mrs. Doris Little Hall, died April 2, 2008; born in Carroll County, GA, October 7, 1929. Mrs. Hall was a 1947 graduate of Pascagoula High School. He was born on March 25, 1992, in Ocean Springs, Miss. Burial: Goff Family Cemetery, Big Point, Miss. Winton "Jack" Caffey, 86, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at his home in Petal, Miss. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was preceded in death by a sister and nine brothers. Graveside services: Jackson County Memorial Gardens, Pascagoula. Mr. Kessie Steward, 86, of Moss Point, died April 5, 2008, born Sept. 18, 1923, in Grove Hill, AL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Feannie Steward; parents, Arnell and Alberta Steward; son, Terrance Steward; grandson, Prince Woods; and two sisters, Ollie May Thompson and Minnie May Henderson. Interment: Machpelah Cemetery, Pascagoula. Apr. 6 Major General William E. Bryan Jr., USAF Retired, died Sunday, April 6, 2008. He entered the Army Air Corps in March 1942 at the age of 21 from his hometown of Flint, Mich. Dad flew 114 combat missions in WWII in the P-51 Mustang Fighter from 1943 to 1945. Stationed in England with the 339th Fighter Group, he achieved status of "Ace," reserved only for VSH fighter pilots. A career military man, in August of 1950, dad again flew the P-51 Mustang on 121 combat missions with the 18th Fighter Bomber Wing during the Korean War. In 1967, while commanding the 831st Air Division, he had occasion to fly a mission from Thailand to North Vietnam. Thus he would declare that he flew fighters in three wars. He was later promoted to Brigadier General and served 18 months in Vietnam. As a highly decorated command pilot with greater than 5,000 hours of flight time, he finished his career as a Major General with 33 years of service to his country at which time he retired to Ocean Springs, Miss. His accommodations include the Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, The Distinguished Flying Cross with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star Medal, the Croix de Guerre, and the Air Medal with 23 Oak Leaf Clusters. General Bryan will be sent to Arlington, Va., for interment in Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. Marcia Allen Butts, 62, of Gautier, Miss., passed away at her home Sunday, April 6, 2008. Mrs. Butts was born Dec. 12, 1945, in Laurel, Miss., to Martin and Resa Spence. She was preceded in death by her mother, Resa Spence. Interment: Jackson County Memorial Park. Lawrence Joseph (Sonny) Gager Jr., passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008, in St. Augustine, Fla. Sonny was born to Lawrence (Buddy) and Vermiel Gager in Pascagoula Miss., where he lived until he joined the Navy. Sonny was a graduate of Our Lady of Victory High School in1956. Opal was born on Jan. 4, 1923, in Oklahoma to the late Charles and Bessie Black. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four husbands, Vernon Mack, Willard Maddux, Robert Faucette and Herman Hilburn; a son, George Maddux; a stepson, Willard C. Apr. 10 Guy Conner Barrett, 87, a retired rural letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Westminster Village, an assisted-living and skilled-care facility in Spanish Fort, Ala. Mr. Barrett was born July 8, 1920, in McCool, Miss. A former resident of Kosciusko, he was a long-standing member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher, for many years. His Sunday school lectures were often broadcast live on WKOZ Radio. In later years, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Pascagoula. Mr. Barrett also was a World War II veteran, having served as a radio technician with the U.S. Army's 587th Signal Depot Company in Toul, France. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raphord "Rafe" Bell Barrett and Cora Conner Barrett; brother, Raphord Lee Barrett; sister, Lucile Barrett, and a grandson, Harris Guy Barrett II. Carolyn Barton Murphy Mayo, of Pascagoula, died April 10, 2008, born on Feb. 22, 1936, in Covington County, Ala., to Jessie Colon and Mavis D. Barton. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her first husband, Marcus Anderson Murphy II; and her brother, Franklin Delano Barton. Carolyn was a loving, supportive wife and mother who lived most of her life in Pascagoula. Savage, 69, of Ocean Springs, Miss., passed away Thursday, April 17, 2008, in Leakesville, Miss. Mr. Savage was born June 13, 1938, in Pascagoula, to the late Augusta and Lucy Savage. He was a longtime resident of Pascagoula. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James A. Savage; a sister, Frances C. Rice; a nephew, Edward Rice Jr., and a brother-in-law, Wilburn W. Powe. Interment: Cronier Cemetery. Jack E. Schnoor, age 81, of Pascagoula, Miss., passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2008. He was born July 24, 1926 in Easton, Pa. He retired from the U.S. Army as a lieutenant colonel after 29 years of distinguished service. He was preceded in death by his first wife, June Rita Schnoor. Following the funeral service, the cemetery service will be private for the family. Apr. 18 Mr. Roger and Mrs. Hiroko Been, of Grand Bay, Mobile County, AL, both passed away on Friday, April 18, 2008 in a car accident in Jackson County, MS. Roger and Hiroko were married on April 11, 1953, in Tokyo, Japan. During their 54 years of marriage, they lived in numerous places before finally retiring to Grand Bay, Ala. Roger, or "Chief" as he was affectionately called, 78 years old and a native of Fort Smith, Ark., served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years. A marine journeyman welder by trade, he enjoyed trout fishing in his home state of South Carolina. He was an avid college football fan, and loved to grow tomatoes. He received these awards and obtained several honors from the Scottish Rite he was most proud of his work with the organization that he helped found in 1988.
