May 1 Allen Eugene (Budgie) Graham, 64, died May 1, 2008; born in Pascagoula, MS and lived in Jackson County and Biloxi for over 40 years. Allen was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy for seven years. preceded in death by his father, Eugene Graham, mother, Myrtle Graham-Eaton, sister, Mauverine Ball, nephew, Donald A. Ball, niece, Janice M. Ball and sister, Andrea Flowers. Burial: Machpelah Cemetery. May 2 Desma George, 88, died May 2, 2008, in Fort Worth, TX; born in Neshoba County, MS, on Oct. 25, 1919. She was the widow of James W. George. She and her husband lived in Moss Point, Ms, from 1950 until 1999, when he passed away. Interment: Machpelah Cemetery. Mrs. Francis Helen Broadus, 88, of West Chester, Pa. (former resident of Moss Point, MS) died Friday, May 2, 2008. Born Dec. 24, 1919, Frances was the beloved wife of the late Edwin Dewey Broadus and mother of Mary Helen Marsh. Graveside service: Caswell Springs United Methodist Church. May 3 Robert P. Comstock, 89, of Ocean Springs, died May 3, 2008 in Ocean Springs; born November 28, 1918. He went to be with is wife of 65 years, Mary (Toliver) Comstock, died in 2006. He served in the U.S. Navy as an officer on the U.S.S. Curtis during WWII. Mr. Claud Lee, 78 of Helena, MS, died May 3, 2008, in Pascagoula, born June 16, 1929, in Montgomery, AL. He had served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Preceded in death by his father and mother, Clarence Lee and Edrie Poole; his first wife, Pearl Lee; and a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Stevens. Interment: Machpelah Cemetery with a Masonic graveside service. Mrs. Gloria A Mosley, 72, of Port Arthur, TX, died May 3, 2008, born Dec. 26, 1935, in New Orleans, La., to Herman Polk and Mary and Cemore Abney. Preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Cemore Abney and Herman Polk; daughter, Philicia Parker; and sister, Anita Abney. Graveside services: St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Pascagoula. Judith Ann Pearson, 48, of Ocean Springs, died May 3, 2008 in Biloxi. She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Billy and Angelina Elrod, and her brothers, Thomas Elrod and Sammy Fryer. Survivors include her fiancé of twelve years and her biological mother of San Antonio, TX. Burial: Biloxi City Cemetery-North. Mrs. Onnie M. Watson Smith, 81, of Moss Point died May 3, 2008. Onnie Mae was born Aug. 30, 1926, as the third of five children to the union of the late Ernest and Maggie (Young) Watson. She was a lifelong member of First Missionary Baptist Church of Moss Point, Miss., and a 1945 graduate of Magnolia High School. Her parents, Ernest and Maggie (Young) Watson; her husband, Jerry Smith; one sister, Ida Belle Broadnax; one brother, Walter "Buddy" Watson; two sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law preceded her in death. Service: First Baptist Church, Moss Point. Burial: First Bapt. Cementry, Escatawpa, MS. May 4 Retired Major Robert G. Libby USMC, 79, of Hurley, died May 4, 2008, at his residence. He was born on March 11, 1929, in Brewer, Maine, to the late Jack and Dot Libby. He is also preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Libby; two brothers, Jack and Bill Libby; and sister, Jean Palmer. It was Bob's wish that no visitation be held. Bob's cremated remains will be scattered in the hills of Gatlinburg, Tenn. Mrs. Boyd O'Neal Keith, 90, born July 17, 1918, the daughter of Jim Byrd and Margaret Edwards O'Neal, at the home place in Bonnie Chapel. Died May 4, 2008. Mrs. Keith was preceded in death by her parents, Jim Byrd and Margaret O'Neal; her dear brother, Bea; and her husband, Robert B. Keith; daughter, Elaine, and son-in-law, Dennis. Boone, 71, of Ocean Springs, MS died on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 in Biloxi. He was a native of Jayess, MS. He joined the USAF at the age of 17 and served honorably for 24 years before retiring in 1977 as a M/Sgt. Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery with full Military Honors. Mr. Walter Thomas Couch, 78, of Moss Point, died May 7, 2008, in Pascagoula, Miss. He was born Dec. 31, 1929, in Moss Point. Mr. Couch retired from International Paper Company. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Richard and Rossetta Couch; wife, Betty Lou Couch; brother, Joseph Couch; sister, Mary Couch. Mr. Kenneth Eugene Ducksworth, 42, of Ocean Springs, MS died May 7, 2008. Mrs. Leona E. Keener Hand, 78, a native of Choctaw County, Ala., and a resident of Moss Point, Miss., died Wednesday, May 7, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter Hand and William B. Keener; and son, Ricky D. Keener. Interment: Mobile Memorial Gardens. May 8 Frank Mitchell Eaton, MSgt, ret., USAF, age 72, and a resident of Ocean Springs, died May 8, 2008 at his home. He was born in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, and was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the US Air Force for 21 years, and retired as a Master Sergeant. Mr. Eaton was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Mayme Eaton; and his brothers, Clyde, Gene, Melvin, Sam and Billy. Graveside services: with military honors, Biloxi National Cemetery. May 9 Henrietta Pierce Prevost, of the Franklin Creek Community, died May 9, 2008, in Pascagoula, MS. Born in the Franklin Creek community, she had been a resident of Moss Point for many years living there with her beloved husband, Johnnie, until his death. Following Johnnie's passing, she returned to Franklin Creek to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Ola Trehern Pierce; her husband, Johnnie; her brothers, Onie, Orie and Silas Pierce; and her sisters, Ollie Westfaul, Nellie Rogers, Linnie Stauter, Sadie Lacey and Ola Mae Laird. Graveside service: Union Cemetery, Moss Point, Miss. George J. McNease, 75, of Gautier, died May 9, 2008, at his home in Gautier. Born June 21, 1932, in Jefferson Davis County, Miss. Mr. McNease was a U.S. Army veteran of Korea, a member of the First Baptist Church of Pascagoula. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Elma Rea McNease; and one sister, Mary Nell Norris. Burial: Crestlawn Cemetery, Ocean Springs, Miss. May 10 Mrs. Mae Lucille Cumbest, 84, died May 10, 2008, in Pascagoula, MS. She was a lifelong resident of Cumbest Bluff, MS. She was born on March 31, 1924, in Hurley, MS. She was the daughter of the late John Holder and the late Mary Pearl Baria. Mae Cumbest graduated from Moss Point High School in 1942. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Nadine Swendsen and Margie Roberts; and her brothers, Norris Holder, W.D. Holder and Vaughn Holder. Interment: Caswell Springs Cemetery. Gaston Miguel Diaz-Cid, died May 10, 2008 in Ocean Springs. He was born December 27, 1926, in Valparaiso, Chile, South America. He was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel and Flor Cid Diaz. Mrs. Norma Jean Jordan, 63, of Moss Point, died May 10, 2008, in Ocean Springs, Miss. She was born May 8, 1945 in Pascagoula, Miss. Norma was the late J.W. Jordan. Breland, 84, of Moss Point, Miss., died May 11, 2008. Reunited with his son, George Tyron Breland; his grandson, Major Michael Lee Green; his parents, Bob Breland and Ethel Jane Breland Kitrell; and his brother, Charles Kenneth "Buddy" Breland. May 12 Mrs. Verniece Bullock, age 91, of Ocean Springs, MS, died May 12, 2008, in Gautier, MS. Mrs. Bullock was born in Jackson County and remained a lifelong resident of Jackson County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Bullock, sons, Gereld Bullock and James Bullock, her parents, Aristide Letort and Nora Quave Letort, sisters, Hilda Gable, Alethia Diaz, and Ella Thomas, and brothers, Vernon Letort and Ira Letort. Mrs. Rose Marie France, age 74, of Ocean Springs, died May 12, 2008 in Ocean Springs, MS; born May 10, 1934 in East Hartford, CT. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lt. Col. Robert L. France, and her parents E. J. and Edith Ouellette. A celebration of life service in honor of Mrs. France's life will be at First Baptist Church of Ocean Springs. James Marion "Butch" Knight, 65, died May 12th in Columbus, GA. He was born in Vicksburg, MS, but had resided in Ocean Springs for over 30 years. He also served as a member and education officer of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. His father, Marion C. Knight and his sister Rose Marie Blue preceded him in death. Glaude Jr., a native of Pascagoula, MS, and a resident of Mobile, AL, was born Nov. 15, 1942, died May 13, 2008. May 15 Mrs. Josephine Tanner Atwell, 95, of Ocean Springs, MS, died May 15, 2008, in Ocean Springs. Mrs. Atwell was born in George County, MS and was a resident of Jackson County since 1931. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buddy Atwell; daughter, Geraldine Williams; son, Darnell Atwell; parents, Alfred "Nep" and Emma Prichard Tanner; 15 brothers and sisters, and two granddaughters. Elijah Keys, age 70 of Gautier, MS, died May 15, 2008 in Pascagoula, MS. Born to the late Jessie "Jack" and Aletha B. Keys in Bassfield, MS. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mary Louise Holloway on Sept. 22, 1957, in Prentiss, Miss. He was an active member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Moss Point, Miss., as long as his health permitted. He was preceded in death by both his parents; his sisters, Gerlean Nelson and Mary Jane Nelson; his brothers, Jessie Keys Jr. and Robert Earl "Sonny Boy" Keys. Mr. Trepkowski was a native of Bay City, Michigan and had been a resident of Jackson County for the past 28 years. He was a U. S. Army veteran. Graveside services: Biloxi National Cemetery. May 17 Patricia Ann McClure, 72, of Moss Point, died May 17, 2008 in Gautier, MS. She was born on August 6, 1935 in Houlka, MS. Mrs. McClure will be reunited with her parents, Ford Naron and Huldah Putnam Naron, her husband, John Earl McClure, two sons, John Earl McClure Jr. and Bruce McClure and a daughter Kwanna McClure. Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, MS. May 18 Mrs. Mary Jacqueline (Jackie) Clayton died Sunday, May 18, 2008. Mrs. Clayton, 74, was born April 15, 1934, to the late Lois and Loerne Cagle Ward in Collins, Miss. Graveside service: Machpelah Cemetery, Pascagoula. Ms. Valda Saujon Kelly, age 84, of Ocean Springs, MS., died May 18, 2008, in Ocean Springs; born and raised in Biloxi, MS. She was a resident of Ocean Springs for over twenty years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Bernadette Saujon and a sister, Theresa Tauscher. Burial: Crestlawn Memorial Park. May 19 Mr. Robert Bowers, 71 of Moss Point died May 19, 2008. Burial: Scranton Cementry, Pascagoula. Mrs. Flora F. Hilliard, 76, died May 19, 2008, in Pascagoula, MS; born March 15, 1932, Plaquemine Parish, La. Graveside services: Machpelah Cemetery, Pascagoula. Sara Hall Whitfield Roemer, formerly of Ocean Springs, MS, and a resident of Wesley Manor died there Sunday, May 18, 2008. Mrs. Roemer was born November 8, 1918, in Gordon to Sam J. Hall and Dixie Vaughn Hall. She was preceded in death by her brother, Samuel J. Hall, III. Graveside services: Gordon City Cemetery. Ward Wilson Funeral Home of Dothan, AL is in charge of the arrangements. May 20 Lee Rogers Hammond, Jr., a resident of El Paso, TX since 1924, died May 20, 2008, at the age of 91. He was born on January 6, 1917 in Pascagoula, Mississippi. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the US Army Signal Corps in China, and was discharged with the rank of Captain in 1946. A memorial service will be held at Trinity-First United Methodist Church; the Wedding Band Class will be honorary pallbearers. A private family burial at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery will precede the service. Mrs. Rita E. Houston, age 86 of Pascagoula, MS, died May 20, 2008 at Plaza Community Living Center. She was born December 29, 1921 in Biloxi, MS. Mrs. Houston was preceded in death by her parents Joseph B. and Clothialde L. Short; and husband Ottis Houston Jr. Interment: Oddfellows Cemetery in Bayou La Batre, Mobile County, AL. May 21 Mr. John Robert Dobbs, age 18, of Pascagoula, Jackson County, MS, died May 21, 2008. Born Oct. 23, 1989 in Jackson, Hines County, MS, to John E. and Margaret (Willingham) Dobbs, he had been a resident of Pascagoula since 1991. John Robert was a senior at Pascagoula High School and would have graduated 'with honors' Friday night with Class of 2008. He worked part time for Burnham Drugs, Moss Point, MS. and was a worship leader at Central Church of Christ. John Robert gave his life to Christ at the age of 9, while attending summer camp. John Robert loved being a camper at Gulf Coast Bible Camp and had attended for many years. He had many wonderful friends and will be missed by all who knew him. He was born on June 15, 1940, in Tylertown, Miss., to the late H.P. and Eunice Carney. Interment: Serene Memorial Gardens. May 23 Mrs. Janice W. Gerhart, age 73, of Ocean Springs, MS., died Friday, May 23, 2008, in Gautier, MS. Mrs. Gerhart was born in Andalusia, AL., and was a resident of Ocean Springs for forty years. She was a veteran of the US Air Force from 1958-1962, was a member of the N.C.O. Wives Club serving as President for 5 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald S. Gerhart, her parents, Bobbye and Richard Grantham and her stepmother, Louise Grantham. Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery. Paul Bailey Kilpatrick, 85, of St. Martin /Ocean Springs, MS, died May 23, 2008; born Feb. 14, 1923, to the late Tom and Grace Kilpatrick in Temple, Okla. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Leon Kilpatrick, and two great-granddaughters, Candice Polite and Chanley Gray. Interment: with military honors, Biloxi National Cemetery. Gertie Alford Langley, of Vancleave, MS., died May 23, 2008, at River Chase Village Nursing Home in Gautier. Born on May 3, 1918, in Carroll County, MS, the daughter of the late George Bedford Alford and Myrtle Mae Berry. Upon her second marriage to the late George William Langley, she moved to Wiggins, MS and from there made her last home in Vancleave, MS. Patricia Ann Stork, age 65, of the Franklin Creek Community, East Jackson County, MS, died May 23, 2008. She was born August 25, 1942 in Bayou La Batre, Mobile County, AL. to her parents, Perry B. and Bessie Miller Rhodes. A memorial service will be at New Vision Church of God, 11507 Patrick Henry St. in the Franklin Creek Community. Arthur Lee Wright Jr., 75, of Moss Point died May 23, 2008. May 24 Susan Ann Kremer, 54, of Moss Point died May 24, 2008. 2008, in Pascagoula, Miss. She was born on March 2, 1954, in West Alice, Wis., to the late Joseph Mielke and Rita Kremer. A celebration of Susan's life will be held at the Pascagoula Beach Park Pier, Beach Blvd., Pascagoula, MS. Edith Clare Jane Seamen, 90, of Pascagoula, died May 24, 2008. Mrs. Seamen was born Oct. 14, 1917, to the late Edmond and Frances Jané in Pascagoula. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Harold M. Seamen. They were married for 40 years prior to his death in 1977. Interment: Jackson County Memorial Park, Pascagoula. Mrs. Vurgia Whitt "Aho" Stallings, 85, of Moss Point, passed away May 24, 2008, in Pascagoula. She was born April 26, 1923, in Okalona, Miss. Mrs. Stallings was preceded in death by her husband, William Dee Stallings; her parents Richard Coleman and Velma Whitt; her brothers, George "Cooney" Whitt, Tillman Whitt and Doyle Whitt; and a sister Margarie Ruth Jones. Interment: Serene Memorial Gardens, Escatawpa. May 26 Mr. Dave "John" Epps Jr., 62, born on Nov. 18, 1943, in Lexington, MS, died May 26, 2008. John was known around the city and amongst his family and friends as "Big John" or "the Junk Man." "Big John" was preceded in death by his parents, Dave Epps Sr. and Pearl Kay Kimbrough-Epps; three brothers, Decade Wade Jr., Walter B. Epps and Lovell Epps.(cemetery not listed) Dr. Louis Fornett Jr., died May 26, 2008 in Pascagoula, MS. He was born on June 16, 1937, in Ponchatoula, La., to the union of Louis and Beatrice Evelyn Fornett. Dr. Fornett graduated from Carver High School in Pascagoula, MS in 1954 and entered the United States Army two months later. Dr. Fornett was active in ministry and Christian education. He was baptized at an early age at Asbury Chapel in Pascagoula. He later moved his membership to Union Baptist Church in Pascagoula. Upon moving to Moss Point, Miss., he joined Olivet Baptist Church. He united with First Christian Disciples of Christ Church where he was ordained as deacon at First Christian Church on Nov. 18, 1979. He was called to Good Hope Baptist Church in Moss Point for one year. Dr. Fornett later joined with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Pascagoula. He received his Certificate of License into the Gospel Ministry on Jan. 24, 1982. Dr. Fornett received his Certificate of Ordination on Aug. 11, 1983. He received his Bachelor of Theology from LIFT Bible College on June 6, 1983. He was called to pastor Christian Missionary Baptist Church in Gulfport, Miss., in 1984. He received his Masters in Theology from E.L. White Theological Seminary on May 20, 1988. Dr. Fornett was certified to serve as Dean of Standard Leadership Training Schools affiliated with the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc. on Feb. 5, 2002. He served in the Gulf Coast Missionary Baptist District Association as Dean of Christian Education. He was a frequent participant in the Christian Education Conference of the Sunday School Publishing Board of the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc. Dr. Fornett also served as executive director of the Jackson County Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Dr. Fornett served in ministry for 28 years and pastored for 14 years, retiring on April 27, 2008, from Christian Missionary Baptist Church in Gulfport. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mytris Gaines, Johnnie Beatrice McKanders and Evelyn Fuller. Visitation: The Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Interment: Scranton Cemetery, Pascagoula. Dr. Robert Davis McBroom III, 76, of Gautier, MS, born on April 28, 1932, died May 26, 2008. He practiced medicine for almost 50 years with 39 of those years being spent in Jackson County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert D. McBroom Jr. and Elesa Woodruff McBroom; and his only sister, Maqueda McBroom Strickland. Dr. McBroom served in the Korean War from 1950-1952 and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Mississippi State University in 1955. He continued his education at Millsaps College to get any courses necessary for medical school and then graduated from the 1st Medical School Class at University of Mississippi in Jackson in 1959. He served on the vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Woodville, Miss., and St. John's Episcopal Church, Pascagoula, Miss., where he was an active member. He was a past Stewardship Commissioner for St. John's in Pascagoula. He was also a licensed lay reader for the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi. He was an active member of Singing River Hospital Systems from 1969 until his death. He served as Singing River Hospital System's chief of staff, chairman of the executive committee, president of Jackson County Medical Foundation, medical director of Plaza Community Living Center from 1977 until his death, chairman of the Internal Medicine Committee four times, a member of the Singing River Hospital Executive Committee, medical director of Amedisys Home Health and a member of Singing River Hospital Medical Ethics Committee. He held memberships in Singing River Medical Society, the Mississippi State Medical Association and the American Medical Association. Visitation: St. John's Episcopal Church in Pascagoula with a memorial service and committal immediately following at the church. Keychell (Kelolo) Murry was a resident of Gulfport, MS. She was preceded in death by Lena Murry and Edward Hanshaw. Service: Greater St. John A.M.E. Church, Biloxi. Burial: Monroe Memorial Park, Gulfport. May 27 Mrs. Patricia Ann Daniel, age 67, of Mobile, AL, died May 27, 2008; born on December 21, 1941 in Berry, AL to the late Jake and Nanny Lois Aldridge. Calling Biloxi, MS home for several years until Hurricane Katrina. She enjoyed researching her family genealogy. Pat often worked at the side of her husband Bill during his decades of service in many areas of the country as Cemetery Administrators. In 2002, Pat and Bill took over Serene Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Moss Point, MS where they made much needed improvements, including the construction of a new mausoleum. Recognizing a need for a crematory in Jackson County, together they opened Coastal Funeral Home and Cremations on September 10, 2006. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son and daughter, and her brother Joe Anthony Aldridge. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Coastal Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the Daniel Family Mausoleum on the property of Serene Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Flora Irene Smith Prentice, age 91, wife of 75 years to Cecil H. Prentice, Sr., died May 27, 2008. Although most recently a 30-year resident of Ocean Springs, Mrs. Prentice formerly lived several years in Gulfport, MS., where she and her family moved from their original home in North Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Recy Smith and Martha Hayes Smith, her son, Cecil H. Prentice, Jr., sister, Jewel McKee, brother, Comer Smith. She was born November 13, 1935 in Pascagoula and has been a life-long resident. She graduated in 1954 from Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Pascagoula. Mrs. Huyett was the former owner of Creations and Crafts in Pascagoula. Interment: Greenwood Cemetery, Pascagoula. May 29 Franklin Royals, 74, died May 25, 2008 in Ocean Springs, MS. Mrs. Smith was born May 10, 1937, in Princeton, N.C. to the late Francis Owen Rains and Mrs. Elizabeth Ormand “Lib” Rains, of Pascagoula, MS. Mrs. Smith made her home in Pascagoula for the past 50 years and was one of the owners of G.E. Sales & Service in Pascagoula. She was preceded in death by her father, Francis “Frank” Owen Rains, Sr. Interment: Jackson County Memorial Park, Pascagoula. May 30 Adair Johnson, age 57, of Ocean Springs, died May 30, 2008; born in Norfolk, VA on Halloween in 1950, one of triplet sisters. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents, William and Pauline Archibald and her triplet sister, Blair Archibald. Graveside service: Fellowship Cemetery, Taylorsville, MS. May 31 Nanlisha Rene Black, 44, a resident of the Metro Atlanta area for the past 20 years, was born the seventh child on Nov. 4, 1963, in Pascagoula, Miss. Died May 22, 2008. She graduated with honors from Moss Point High School in 1981. She was a lifelong member of Asbury Chapel AME Zion Church in Pascagoula. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bunadine Marshall Black; her father, Joe Black Sr., and her nephew, Broderick Marlon McNair. He was preceded in death by his father, Clayton Parker, Stepfather Harvey Blankenship and brother, Mark Blankenship.
