Memorial Service: Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Jewel Juanita Golmon Hammond, 77, of Pascagoula, MS, died Aug. 1, 2008. Born Oct. 8, 1930, in New Orleans, LA. Preceded in death by her father, Reverend Jewel Sidney Golmon, and her mother, Lena McGraw Golmon; her youngest daughter, Marsha Gaye Hammond (killed in auto accident); siblings Warren Lafayette Golmon (killed by auto), Shirley Jeanette Golmon (died as an infant), and Geraldine "Mike" Shoemaker; brother-in-law, Jimmy Cox; two nieces, Susanne Lea Cox and Kelly Susanne Golmon; and by her longtime friends: Annie Mae, Mildred, Elverda, Bertha, and Mrs. Stuart. Mrs. Hammond was an accomplished pianist and organist and played at her home church, Kreole Avenue Baptist Church, for more than 30 years. Burial: Orange Grove Cemetery, Moss Point. Rosie Scott, 82, of Vancleave, MS died Aug. 1, 2008, at her home. Donnie Stewart, Jr., age 75, of Pascagoula, died August 1, 2008, born August 20, 1932 in Jackson, MS. Mr. Stewart graduated from Pascagoula High School and was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pascagoula. He is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Christine Moore Stewart; parents, Donnie Stewart, Sr. and Virgina Le Jenue Stewart; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lonnie and Eleanor Stewart; Monroe and Marie Stewart. Masonic Graveside services: Serene Memorial Gardens, Escatawpa, MS. Douglas K. Tootle, age 54, of Ocean Springs, died August 1, 2008 in Mobile, AL. Preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Ella Nora Tootle; Step-father, George Ackerson and his brother, Wayne Patrick Tootle. Interment: Crestlawn Memorial Park. Aug 2 Sr. Chief Petty Officer Robert Comer Hudson, age 69, of Ocean Springs, MS, died August 2, 2008 at his home in Ocean Springs. Born on November 20, 1938 in Pensacola, FL. He joined the United States Navy. His service included tours on the following ships: USS Antietam CVS-36, USS Vulcan AR-5, USS Proteuis AS-19, USS Gainard DD 706, USS Yellowstone AD-27, USS Dixon, AS-37. His final naval tour was aboard the USS Lexington CVT 16. Also during his naval service, Robert was stationed at US Navy RTC, Columbus, Georgia, and was an instructor at U.S. Naval Training Center at San Diego, California. Robert was awarded the Naval Commendation Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, the National Defense Medal, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal four times. Robert retired from the US Navy after twenty years of service in February, 1975 as Senior Chief Petty Officer. Preceded in death by his parents, Hilton C. Hudson and Mae Bell Hudson Heise. Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery. Julia "Julie" Ann Lanquist, 82, a native of North Muskegon, Mich., died Aug. 2, 2008, in Pascagoula. A celebration of Julie's life will be held at the family residence in Pascagoula, MS. Aug 3 Lydia Maureen Bartosik, 68, of Ocean Springs, died August 3, 2008. Larry Richard Lima, 66, of Pascagoula, MS, died Aug. 3, 2008, in Pascagoula. Mr. Lima was born Nov. 2, 1941, in Eau Claire, Wis. He was a proud and patriotic veteran of 28 years service in the United States Navy, serving the bulk of his duty in the submarine service. His many years of naval service took him to many duty stations around the world, serving on at least five different submarines. At one point in his career, he served on the "Burgara," SS331, under his father, who was the COB. Mr. Lima re-enlisted in the Navy on one occasion for the express purpose of serving on the famous battleship, the USS Missouri. His re-enlistment ceremony was held on the exact spot that marked the Japanese surrender at the end of World War II. Mr. Lima was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore E. and Eleanor Larsen Lima; his in-laws, Olen and Ava Lee Key; and two brothers, David and Jeff Lima. Graveside services: Biloxi National Cemetery with military honors. Phillip Lee Scarbrough, 50, of Wade, MS, died Aug. 3, 2008. He Born in Jackson County Aug. 24, 1957. Mr. Scarbrough was preceded in death by his father, Phillip H. Scarbrough; a granddaughter, Allyson Justice Graham; and his grandparents, Sammie and Murtyle Hearndon. Graveside services: Johnson Cemetery, Wade. Aug 4 Margaret Dawson, age 96, of Ocean Springs, MS., died August 4, 2008, in Ocean Springs. Preceded in death by her husband, Bob Dawson, son, Robert Dawson and wife, Connie, daughter, Margaret Dawson, a twin sister, Kinkey Neyman and a nephew, Sam Neyman. Private services will be held at a later date. Charles Magee, 36, of Gautier, died Aug. 4, 2008. Burial: Scranton Cemetery, Pascagoula. Mr. Charles Harold "Charlie" Ponder, 65, of Gautier died August 4, 2008. Mrs. Lucille Anniece Rogers, of Escatawpa, 88, died Aug. 4, 2008, in Pascagoula, MS. She was born June 24, 1920, in Hurley, MS. She was of the Pentecostal faith and often played the piano for her church. Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her infant son, Harvey Wayne Rogers. Interment: Machpelah Cemetery, Pascagoula. Mrs. Geneva Mae Ross, 63, of Gautier, MS, died August 4, 2008, in Ocean Springs. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Aug 5 Teresa Boyer, 52, of Ocean Springs, formerly of Peoria, Ill., died Aug. 5, 2008 in Ocean Springs. Teresa was member of First Baptist Church in Biloxi. Burial: Seaborn/Bond Cemetery, Perkinston, MS. Dr. William "Bill" Hosking, 70, of Moss Point, died August 5, 2008 in Jackson, MS, born: On May 11, 1938 in Easton, PA. Bill was a son of the Kate Hosking and the late George Hosking. Bill served proudly in the Navy and Coast Guard. Burial: Griffin Cemetery, Moss Point with Military Honors. 1st Lt "Libby" Elizabeth Mary McGee Coyle, age 78, died August 5th, 2008. She had been a resident of Ocean Springs since 1964 and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ocean Springs. Libby was born to Mary "Molly" Broadley McGee and Harry Shirl McGee in Beverly, Massachusetts, on July 19th, 1930. Upon graduation from high school she entered nursing school and later joined the U.S. Air Force where she advanced to the rank of 1st Lt.. After the birth of her 3 daughters she went back to the nursing profession as a civilian in which most of the rest of her career was spent as an intensive care nurse. Upon retiring from the nursing profession she worked as a volunteer with the Ocean Springs Hospital Auxiliary for approximately 20 years. She was very proud to be a "Pink Lady." She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Molly McGee, father, Harry Shirl McGee, sister, Inez McGee Barrowclough, and her beloved husband USAF Lt. Colonel Robert Coyle. Memorial Service: First Presbyterian Church, Ocean Springs, MS. Mr. J. W. Phillips, age 73, died August 5, 2008, in Ocean Springs. He was born on March 18, 1935 in Biloxi and moved to Vancleave in 1975. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wilson and Lucy Lee Simmons Phillips; one daughter, Valerie Renee Phillips and seventeen siblings. Aug 6 Mark Cundiff, age 36, of Fayette, AL, died Aug. 6, 2008, in Pascagoula, Miss. Services: Shepherd Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Grace Larsen Patten, age 92, passed away peacefully at the home of her son on August 6, 2008. She was born in Pascagoula, MS, on January 6, 1916, but spent most of her childhood in Mobile, AL. Her family moved to Jacksonville, FL, when she was a teen-ager, where she attended Immaculate Conception High School. In 1947, she and her late husband Pat moved to Southside where they raised their three children. She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church. Graveside services: Greenlawn Cemetery, Florida. Frank Telley, 51, was a lifelong resident of Jackson County, MS died Aug. 6, 2008, at his parent's home. Frank was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd (Gertrude) Robinson and uncle, Mackinley Lucas. Interment: Scranton Cemetery, Pascagoula, Miss. Aug 7 Ennis Anthony Grady, 81, of Lucedale, George County, MS, died Aug. 7, 2008 in Pascagoula. Mr. Grady was born in Biloxi on Aug. 6, 1927. He severed 45 years as an engineer in the United States Merchant Marines. Mr. Grady was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Joseph Grady and Lily Margie Rushing Grady; three brothers, Henry Eugene Grady, Eugene Joseph Grady Jr., and George Frank Grady; four sisters, Lily Mae Grady Gilly, Ada Louise Grady Bergeron, Myrtle Ione Grady and Rose Mary Grady Martin. Graveside services: Carter Cemetery, in the Salem Community. Ella Mary Jessie, 82, a resident of Ocean Springs, MS, died Aug. 7, 2008, in Indianapolis, Ind. Charles Jackson, born on December 09, 1929 in Waynesboro, MS, died August 08, 2008 in Ocean Springs. He was the son of the late Manny Dyke and Nellie Jackson. "Mike" Holman, died Aug. 8, 2008, at his home in Baton Rouge, LA. He was 51 and a native of Pascagoula, MS. Aug 9 Melvin Douglas Benward, 54, of Ocean Springs, died Aug. 9, 2008 in Sunflower County, MS. Services: Macedonia MBC, Ocean Springs, Ms. William Larry Bilbo Sr., 71, born in Ocean Springs, MS and resided in Sandpoint, ID and Clinton, AR for the last 20 years. Passed away Saturday August 9th, 2008 in Hammond, LA with family at his side. Memorial Services will be held at Belle Fountain Baptist Church, 7900 Fontainebleau Rd., Ocean Springs MS. Stefon Keith Roberson, 38, of Gautier, MS, was born May 3, 1970, died Aug. 9, 2008, at his home. Preceded in death by his mother, Leola Roberson, and two brothers, Virgil and Lester Mayers. Aug 10 Grady Campbell died August 10, 2008 in Laurel, MS. Grady had been a life long resident of Jackson County until 1999, when he moved to Waynesboro, MS. He retired after 37 years from Litton Shipbuilding. Grady was an ordained minister with the Mississippi District Assemblies of God, where he served several churches in Mississippi. Grady is survived by his second wife, son and daughters. Grady had 11 grand children and 8 great grand children. Grady was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Ann Smith Campbell. Leon Grady Capps, 70, of Ocean Springs, died Aug. 10, 2008. Nunzio George "Nino" Pollina, 72, died August 10, 2008 in Ocean Springs, MS. He was a resident of Ocean Springs for 44 years. Nino was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Salvatore Pollina and Rosina Pagano Pollina. He served in the United States Army National Guard and married Jonne C. Gay of Ocean Springs. Nino and Jonne returned to settle in Ocean Springs where he and his father-in- law, J.C. "Champ" Gay successfully operated Champion Hardware. Nino was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Rose Pollina and his sole sibling, Charles Pollina. Burial: Crestlawn Memorial Park. He served in the United Sates Army in World War II from January, 1943 until April, 1946. Preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Beaugez Noble, his wife of 59 years, died February, 2004, his parents Morris and Jane Noble and his sister, Eunice Seymour. Burial: Antioch Cemetery, Vancleave. Mrs. Annie Mae Goff Roberts, 88, of Moss Point, died Aug. 11, 2008. Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph B. Roberts, and her parents, Curtis H. and Mae Kirkwood Goff. Aug 13 Mrs. Jeanette Lula Dangelo, 75, a native and resident of Laurel, MS, died Aug. 13, 2008, in Laurel. She was a former resident of Pascagoula, MS. She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Breland. Interment: Salem Cemetery, Wayne County, MS. Otis McCoy Starnes, 74, of Pascagoula, died Aug. 13, 2008. He was born September 3, 1933 in Caldwell Parish, LA. He served in the U.S. Navy and Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents James Vernon Starnes and Helen Estelle Whitten Starnes; wife Don Gloria Pell Starnes; son Otis Paul Starnes. Burial: Serene Memorial Gardens. Aug 14 Doris (Cary) de Bessonet, died in Baton Rouge, LA on Aug. 14, 2008, at the age of 98. Born on March 22, 1910, in Pascagoula, MS, she was the daughter of David Clarence Cary and Evaline Lear Cary. In 1951, she co-founded St. James Episcopal Day School, where she taught kindergarten for 40 years. Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Aurel George deBessonet. Aug 15 Gerald Ray Fortner, age 49, of Ocean Springs, died August 15, 2008 in Ocean Springs. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Laura Lee Gonzales, age 76, a resident of Pass Christian, died Aug. 15, 2008 at home. Preceded in death by her husband, James Felix Gonzales; 3 brothers and 5 sisters. There will be private services held at a later date. Charles H. "Jimbo" Richardson Sr., 72, was born Oct. 7, 1935. Died Aug. 15, 2008, at his home in Pascagoula, MS. Mr. Richardson was preceded in death by his mother, Melvina F. Prince; father and stepmother, Pat (Emma) Richardson; daughter, Valerie D. Richardson; son, Keith A Johnson; sister, Mary P. Richardson-Stanley and mother-in-law, Marie Carter. He is survived by his wife; daughters, sons, step-children, Mr. Richardson has 45 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren . Aug 16 Funeral services were held at Newton Chapel UMC, in Poplarville (Whitesand Community) for Bobby Ray Davis, 57, of Moss Point, MS, at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula. Lieutenant Commander Peter T. Favreau, retired, age 47, of Ocean Springs, MS, died Aug. 16, 2008, in Mobile, AL. Born in Oceanside, N.Y., he was the son of Francis A. and Catherine T. (Nolan) Favreau. He was a 21-year U.S. Navy veteran and served on the Forrestal, the Theodore Roosevelt and the Portland. He served as assistant supply officer at Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, PR and in a joint position at SACLANT, in Norfolk, Va. He earned his master's degree at the Naval War College in Newport, RI. He held the rank of lieutenant commander at the time of his retirement. Services will be held in Ocean Springs at a later date. Burial: Pine Grove Cemetery in Fitz-William, NH. Merleigh "Ann" King, 52, of Ocean Springs, died Aug. 16, 2008, in Ocean Springs, born in Eugene, OR. Preceded in death by her first husband, Robert J. Campbell. Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery. Marian Elaine (Gonnella) Leos, 54, born in Burlingame, CA. Died in August 2008, Marian devoted 26 years to serving her country in the U.S. Navy. She retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in 1997. She achieved her life-long dream of being a teacher and taught at Gautier High School. She resided in Ocean Springs for the past 16 years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jean Gonnella. Interment: Southern Memorial Park, Biloxi. (death date not listed) Ms. Julia Ann Martin Pittsley, age 48, of Gautier, MS, died Aug. 16, 2008, born in Biloxi. Preceded in death by her son, Kevin G. Aug 17 Carl Benson, 48, of Moss Point, MS died Aug. 17, 2008. Lloyd Russell Jones, 88 of Pascagoula, died August 19, 2008 in Pascagoula, MS. Mr. Jones was born October 3, 1919 to the late John Wesley and Sue Anna Jones in Hurley, MS. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and owned Jones Awning & Fence from 1960 until his retirement in 1982. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife in 1997, Bertha Anita Jones. Interment: Jackson County Memorial Park, Pascagoula, MS. Mrs. Jimmie Smith Hawkins, died Aug 17, 2008. She was born in Kosciusko, Ms. She moved to the Coast of MS as a child. Aug 18 Mrs. Judith Elizabeth Donahue Guise, 60 of Harleston, MS, died August 18, 2008. She was born July 18, 1948 in Philadelphia, PA. She was a member of Helena Presbyterian Church. Burial: Scranton Cemetery. Mr. Levoy W. Matthews, 91, of Ocean Springs, died August 18, 2008 at St. Vincent East Medical Center in Birmingham, AL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Holcomb Matthews. Burial: Coaltown Cemetery with military rites by VFW Post 3036 Honor Guard. James Michael "Mike" Pinckard, 54, of Vancleave, MS, died August 18, 2008. He was born August 29, 1953 in Troy, AL and has been a resident of Vancleave area since 1976. He was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Vietnam War. He is preceded in death by his parents, Coston and Sybil Pinckard; brother, Willie Pinckard. Funeral Services: Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Brantley, AL. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Aug 19 Jerry L. Dulaney, 77, of Ocean Springs for the past 35 years, died August 19, 2008 in Ocean Springs. His first three years of military service was in the Army during the Korean Conflict, where he received a Purple Heart for his combat injuries. He later joined and retired from the Air Force after 22 years of service. He continued his service to his country for fifteen years with Civil Service. Preceded in death by his wives, Helen J. Dulaney and Johnnie Sue Dulaney and his parents, Earnest Dulaney and Veea Jones Dulaney. Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery. Mr. A. C. Marion, the son of the late Mr. Edward Marion Sr. and Mrs. Jessie Tatum Marion. Born April 10, 1924, in Escatawpa, died in Pascagoula, MS Aug. 19, 2008. He served in the United States Navy for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Marion; three brothers, Thedore Marion, Edward Marion Jr. and Clarence Gable Marion; and one sister, Mary Loudella Pugh. Henderson served 27 1/2 years in the United States Air Force. He was the Non- Commissioned Officer in charge of 403rd Maintenance Squadron, Instrumentation Flight Control Section (IFCS) on Unit Training Assembly. He is also a Civil Service employee Engineering Technician, with the 81st Training Support Squadron, Keesler AFB. Clarence Willis Jackson, 73, of Pascagoula, MS, died Aug. 20, 2008, in Pascagoula. Mr. Jackson was born Dec. 6, 1934, in Walnut Grove, MS, to the late Homer and Jessie Mae Jackson. He had lived along the coastal area since 1950. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gurleon Maxie Jackson in 2004. Funeral services: funeral home chapel. Mrs. Ester R. Tucker, of Moss Point, died Aug. 20, 2008, in Pascagoula, MS. She was born in Leake County, Miss., to the late Manuel and Adaline Williams on July 2, 1939. She was preceded in death by her husband, D.R. "Jack" Tucker; sister, Louella Brazzle; four brothers, Andy Williams, Ezell Williams, Howard Williams and Clifton Williams. Virgil was a proud U.S. Army veteran serving from 1958-61. He went on to own Goff Construction.Mr. Goff was preceded in death by his parents, John Leroy and Viola E. Jason Longon, 32, of Ocean Springs, MS, died August 22, 2008, in Mobile, AL. Jason was born in Biloxi. Aug 23 Mr. Jessie Gene Redmond, 67, of Gautier, MS, died August 23, 2008, in Pascagoula. Gene was born on August 21, 1941 in Biloxi, MS .He worked in the housekeeping department of the Biloxi Veteran's Hospital for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife Vivian; parents Edward and Onealure Redmond; brothers Claude and William, and sisters Geneva and Peggy. Burial: Serene Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Aug 24 Mr. Thomas Claiborne "T. C." Fullilove, 96, of Pascagoula, MS, Aug. 24, 2008, in Gautier, MS. He was born in Foster Station, LA. on April 6, 1912. Mr. Fullilove moved to Pascagoula in 1941. He was a veteran of service in the United States Navy, serving on the battleship, USS West Virginia of Pearl Harbor fame. Mr. Fullilove is reunited with his beloved wife of 61 years, Amy Mercer Fullilove; his son, Tom M. Fullilove; his parents, Thomas Claiborne Fullilove Sr. and Anna Sprenger Fullilove; and two brothers, Charles and Staton Fullilove. Burial: Jackson County Memorial Park, Pascagoula. Mr. Albert Gause "Bert" Wood, 87, a prominent Moss Point, MS businessman for over 50 years, passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, from complications due to an injury sustained as a patient at a local hospital. Mr. Wood was the son of the late George Price Wood and Mary Alethea Gregory Wood. He was the great-nephew of Charles Henry Wood, the first mayor of Moss Point, and the great-grandson of the Honorable George Wood, who served as district attorney for Jackson County, MS and later as chancellor judge in the late 1800's. He served in the United States Army Air Corps in World War II. He returned home after the war to join with T.L. "Pete" Delashment, Jr. to run the Moss Point Insurance Agency, a company started by their fathers. He married his high school sweetheart, Charlotte Ryder. Their marriage lasted for over 60 years until her death in 2005. Bert Wood was vitally interested in Moss Point and Jackson County, serving on numerous boards and committees dedicated to the improvement of the area. He was very instrumental in obtaining the federal funds for the Escatawpa River Bridge and for the widening of Main Street in Moss Point. He served for several years on the board of directors for Hancock Bank. He was an active member of Moss Point Presbyterian Church for many years, and more recently a member of First Presbyterian Church of Pascagoula, Miss. As evidence of his devotion to the city and county, he was awarded the Lifetime Community Service Award by the Young Men's Business Club in 1995. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Ryder Wood; his parents; his brothers, George P. Wood Jr. and Gregory Wood; and sister, Mary Edwina Wood Chappell. Aug 25 Casey Eugene Phillips, 31, a native of Mobile, AL and a resident of Hurley, MS died at home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, Aug. 25, 2008. Aug 27 Norwood Lambert, of Big Point, MS died Aug. 27, 2008 in Pascagoula. Born in Lincoln County, MS, to the late Leon E. Lambert Sr. and Ollie Dee Greer Lambert on Dec. 10, 1929. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. In 1953, he moved to Pascagoula. Don was a native of Cambridge, MA and a resident of Biloxi for 52 years until Hurricane Katrina. He relocated to San Angelo, TX and now in Ocean Springs. Don retired from the United States Air Force in 1974 after 20 years of service. He held the rank of Tech Sergeant and was an electronic specialist. Don was preceded in death by his oldest son, Steven Doyle of Biloxi, his parents Donald, Sr. and Honorine Boudreau Doyle, his sisters, Barbara Hutchinson, Mildred Bartlett, and a brother, Eddie Doyle, all of MA. Burial: Biloxi City Cemetery with military honors. Lillian Frances Merriwether Heidelberg, 87, of Pascagoula, MS, died August 29, 2008 in Moss Point, MS. Mrs. Heidelberg was born on November 15, 1920 in Milton, Florida, and grew up in Grand Bay, Alabama. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Pascagoula. Mrs. Heidelberg was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Samuel Terril Heildelberg Sr. She is survived by her four children; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Joey was born on August 6, 1967 in Birmingham, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Beryl Bice, and his brother James. Private services at a later date. J. Elmo Lang, 78, of Pascagoula, MS, died August 30th, 2008. He was born in Magnolia, Mississippi, and was a resident of Pascagoula for almost 50 years. Elmo was a practicing attorney for 40 years in Jackson County. Elmo graduated from Magnolia High School, where he was student council president and Mr. Magnolia High. He received his bachelor's degree at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he lettered four years in football, setting numerous records, some of which stood over 30 years. Elmo also played basketball and baseball for USM and was elected Mr. USM his senior year. He was inducted into the USM Sports Hall of Fame for football in 1967. Elmo served in the U.S. Army with the 11th Airborne Division as a paratrooper. During his years in the Army, among other duties, he was athletic director for the Division in Augsburg, Germany, and coached the Division's football team as they played other divisions across Germany. After his Army service, Elmo worked as an insurance adjuster and later began his law practice upon completion of a preceptor law program and passing the Bar. He was a member of both the Mississippi Bar and Jackson County Bar Associations. He was Past-President of the Jackson County Bar Association. He headed the Pro Bono Project and legal education seminars for Jackson County for 10 years. He was elected "Jackson County Lawyer of the Year" in 1995.Elmo was a member of the Pascagoula Rotary Club, the USM Eagle Club, the USM Foundation, a USM Alumni life member, and Past-President of the International Alumni Board for USM. He was also organizer and Past-Chairman of the Susan Belcher Memorial Scholarship. Elmo was also inducted into the first USM Hall of Fame in October 1987. During his tenure as USM Alumni President, he initiated and conducted an on-campus contest in order to find an appropriate nickname and mascot for USM. The former nickname at USM was the "Southerners." The winning entry, voted on by the alumni, was the "Golden Eagles."Elmo's hobbies included playing and coaching tennis as well as dancing. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pascagoula. He and his wife, Vivian, also enjoyed many years attending all Southern Miss football games at home and across the country.Mr. Lang was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Maggie Simmons Lang; brothers Bobby, C.W., Gene; and sister Margaret Lang Flowers. She was born March 18, 1929 in Modelo, FL and has been a resident of Pascagoula since 1980. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Gordon Thombley and Esther Mae Thombley; brother, Ned Thombley. Burial: Riverview Memorial Gardens, Valdosta, GA. Robert M. Proffitt III, age 33, born July 30, 1975, died August 31, 2008. Robert was preceded in death by grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Idom ( Dot) and Mr. Robert Proffitt Sr. He endured the majority of his life with diabetes.
