This is for family research. Sept. 1 Bernadette Clifton, 82, of Ocean Springs, died Sept. 1, 2008. Ms. Clifton was born December 30, 1925 in Pascagoula. Bernadette is preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Numa Emanuel West, Bennie Joseph West, Valance “Sis” Horner, Bernard “Sonny” West, and Helen Rose Fazekas. Burial: Jackson County Memorial Park, Pascagoula, MS. Jacob (Jake) Anthony Istvanditsch, age 70, died September 1, 2008 at home in Ocean Springs, MS, with his wife, Maryann at his side. He was born in Baranja, Yugoslavia in 1938 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1951. He attended school in Freehold N.J. and served in the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis. Jacob was predeceased by his mother Marie Istvanditsch and his brother Frank Istvanditsch. Services are to be private at the families request. Margie Schiewe, 73, of Westwego, LA, died September 1, 2008 in Minden, LA. She was born April 19, 1935 in Philadelphia, MS. Burial: Orange Grove Cemetery, Moss Point, (East) Jackson County, MS. Sept. 2 Mrs. Shereen S. Schumacher DeGeorge, age 66, of Ocean Springs, MS, died September 2, 2008 in Ocean Springs. Shereen was born to W.C. and Ethel Schumacher on March 21, 1942, in Scottfield, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents W.C. and Ethel Schumacher, daughter, Rene DeGeorge, grandchild, Sherry Cauble, stepfather, Charles W. Cauble, and a brother, Walter C. Schumacher. Burial: Southern Memorial Park. Mr. Walter Powell (Pal) Roberts, 83, of Wiggins, Stone County, MS, died September 2, 2008. Born December 17, 1924 in Vancleave, Jackson County, MS to the late Morrison and Ruth Lyons Roberts. He graduated from Moss Point High School in 1943. He proudly served his country during World War II as a Merchant Marine, followed by four years in the Marine Corps. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Tim Roberts. Services: First Baptist Church of Wiggins. Burial: Breland Family Cemetery. Mr. Stephen Kenneth Wetzel, Sr., age 69, of Ocean Springs, MS died Sept. 2, 2008. Born September 19, 1938, in Biloxi. He served in the MS National Guard. Mr. Wetzel was preceded in death by his parents, Jacobina Sekul Gilich of Biloxi and Percy J. Wetzel, Jr. of Biloxi. Burial: Crestlawn Memorial Park. Frank Zglenicki, age 73 of Helena, MS died September 2, 2008 at his home. He was born December 4, 1934 in Vevay, Ind. Mr. Zglenicki wa preceded in death by his parents Joe and Emma Zglenicki. Demaris Ann Emling, 75, of Gautier, died September 4, 2008 at her residence. She was born January 22, 1933 in Lordsburg, NM. He was born April 30, 1945 in Pascagoula, MS. Michial’s wishes were to be cremated. Mable Laverne Williams, age 77, of Ocean Springs, MS, died September 4, 2008, in Ocean Springs. She was born on September 11, 1930 to George and Mable Williams of Shreveport, LA. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mrs. George Ann Kinney and Mrs. Marie Montgomery. Graveside services: Biloxi City Cemetery. Sept. 5 Calvin O'Neal Miller Sr., 81, a resident of Escatawpa, MS, died Sept. 5, 2008, in Pascagoula. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Craig Miller; his parents, Charles and Mattie Miller Jr.; and a son-in-law, Lloyd Byrd. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Sheridan “ Buddy” Moak of Hurley, MS died September 5, 2008; born January 16, 1936 to the late Philip Sherdian and Henrietta Moak in Pascagoula, MS. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Moak in 1999. Interment: Big Point Cemetery. Mrs. Vessie Milling Pinter, 95, was born September 25, 1912 in Neshoba County, MS, died September 5, 2008. Mrs. Pinter was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Ollie D. Pinter; son, Quinton Lance Pinter; parents, Ransel and Mary Milling; sister, Geneva Hillman; brother, William E. Miling; daughter in law, Opal Pinter. A 1931 graduate of Mendenhall Agricultural High School. She and her first husband, the late Kenneth Gunter, moved to the coast in 1941. In 1965 she married the late Thomas M. Bates. She was predeceased by husbands Kenneth Gunter and Thomas M Bates, her beloved son, Jimmy Gunter, parents Jim Reese and Dora May Kennedy, sisters Ollie Lee Hughes, Rosie McClendon, brothers G. B. Kennedy, Clifton Kennedy, and Thomas Kennedy, nieces Kitty Dambrino, Carolyn Busbee and nephew Steven Kennedy Gardner. Graveside service: Magee Cemetery, Magee, MS. Thomas H. Gordon, died Sept. 8 2008; born Nov. 16, 1917 in New York to the late, Rose and William Gordon. Tom was married to the late, Ann Sullivan Gordon. He served from July 10, 1939 until July 31, 1966 in the United States Air Force. After retirement from the Air Force, he worked for the Civil Service as a photographer - still at Keesler Air Force Base. Tom has resided in Ocean Springs for over 30 years. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, James and William Gordon. Burial: Crestlawn Memorial Park. John N. Kiffer, 77, of New Orleans, LA died Sept. 8, 2008. Sept. 9 Elizabeth "Betty" L. Havard, 76, of Moss Point, MS, died Sept. 9, 2008, at her son Lucky's residence, surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born Aug. 27, 1932, in Portsmouth, N.H. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Kevin Linscott; parents, Oscar and Elizabeth Muder; sister, Shirley Morris; and two brothers, Harold and Kenny Muder. A celebration of Betty's life will take place at The Good Shepherd Mausoleum of Serene Memorial Gardens. Sept. 10 Norma Lou Kihyet, age 86, formerly of Pascagoula, MS, died September 10, 2008 in Mobile, AL. Mrs. Kihyet was born March 31, 1922 in Vardman, MS to the late Early and Flora Bailey. She served as Queen with the Tri-City Carnival Association and was the First Queen for the American Legion Carnival Ball. She was preceded in death by her husband Tofie Elias Kihyet; two brothers, Otis and Charles Bailey; one sister, Marie Smith. Services: Greenwood Cemetery, Pascagoula, MS. James E. Sargent, age 47, of Ocean Springs, died, Sep. 10, 2008. Mass at St. Alphonsus Church. Sept. 11 Henry C. Thensted, Jr. (Buddy), age 80, of Ocean Springs, MS died September 11, 2008. Mr. Thensted was born in Biloxi, MS. on February 7, 1928, and spent most of his life there. Henry served in the United States Coast Guard and the United States Navy from 1946-1951. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Walters Thensted, his father, Henry Charles Thensted, Sr., his sister, June Avrett. Burial: Old Biloxi City Cemetery. Sept. 12 Mr. Forrest O'Neal Cobb, 58, of Ocean Springs, MS, died September 12, 2008, in Ocean Springs. Mr. Cobb was a native of Bolivar, TN and had been a resident of the Gulf Coast since 1969. He resided in Ocean Springs the last 14 years. Mr. Cobb was preceded in death by his parents, Alvie and Julie Cobb. Bobby Joe Daniel , 68, formerly of Moss Point, MS, died Sept. 12, 2008, at his daughter's residence in Athens, AL. Bobby was born on May 17, 1940, in Limestone County, AL to the late Lofton and Elsie Daniel. Bobby dedicated most of his adult life to the cemetery industry as a family service counselor and managing cemeteries all over the country. He spent the last five years as the manager of Serene Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum, in Moss Point, MS. In addition to his parents, Bobby was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Glen Daniel; and two brothers, Homer and Glen. Pamela Diane (Cunningham) Finnie, of Ocean Springs, MS died September 12, 2008, at the age of 59. She was preceded in death by her father, Bernard Cunningham. Born in Richwood , WV on March 20, 1949, her family moved to southwestern Pennsylvania when she was a small child and she was a resident of the Pittsburgh area until 2002. "Gary" Travis, Jr., 62, of Ocean Springs, MS died September 12, 2008, in Ocean Springs. Mr. Travis was born in Bradford, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton G. Travis, Sr. and Jane Monroe Travis. Private services will be held at a later date. Sept. 13 Mrs. Lois Davis, 80, of Ocean Springs, MS, died September 13, 2008. Stephen A. Watkins, Sr., 61 of Moss Point, MS died September 13, 2008 in Columbus, GA. He was born November 7, 1946 in Union, MS. A U.S. Army veteran of Vietman. He was preceded in death by parents, Arnold and Frances Watkins. Burial: Serene Memorial Gardens, Escatawpa, MS. Sept. 14 William B. Howkins, 79, of Ocean Springs, died Sept. 14, 2008. Mr. Howkins was a native of Savannah, GA, and was raised in Bermuda and Jamaica. Upon returning to the United States he attended Taft Boarding School in Connecticut. After joining his family in Ocean Springs he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1946. He served on a LST with a special unit 1040, and was honorably discharged in 1949. He purchased his first piece of property in Vancleave, MS in 1950 where he raised his family. He was preceded in death by his son, William Beekman Howkins, Jr., his parents, Dr. John Smallbrook Howkins and Alice Huger Howkins, two brothers, John Smallbrook Howkins, Jr. and John Huger Howkins, and his first wife, Virginia B. Howkins. Funeral services: St. John's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Betty Lou McBeath, 66, of Moss Point, MS died Sept. 14, 2008, in Pascagoula. She was born April 7, 1942, in Carthage, MS. She lived in Moss Point for 45 years. She was a member of Union Baptist Church in Pascagoula. She was preceded in death by her father, Jessie Luckett; one sister, Gloria Daniels; and one brother-in-law, Hershel Earnest. Interment: Machpelah Cemetery, Pascagoula. Sept. 15 Duffie E. Sept. 16 Mrs. Syble Pauline Ryals, 87, of Pascagoula, MS died Sept. 16, 2008, in a local hospital. She was born July 27, 1921, in Neshoba County, MS, to the late John and Bessie Wilder Duett. She had been a resident of Pascagoula for more than 70 years. She married the love of her life, Charles E. "Chuck" Ryals, who preceded her in death in September 2005. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Bobbie Everett, and a grandson, Christopher Ryals. Interment: Serene Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Mary Delores (Webb) Smith, 71, of Vancleave, MS died Sept. 16, 2008, at her home in Vancleave. She was born Oct. 15, 1936, in Jackson County, MS. Mrs. Smith is reunited with her parents, Ramous and Leaty Webb; a brother, Charles E. Webb; and her father and mother-in-law, Edgar and Verna Smith. Sept. 21 Mrs. Geraldine "Gerry" Allen, age 80, of Ocean Springs, MS died September 21, 2008 in Gulfport. Geraldine was born on December 23, 1927 in Stanley County, NC. She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and Ocean Springs Volunteer Fireman's Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis L. Allen, Sr.; her parents, Milas Fred Austin and Mollie Mae Austin; a brother, Bob Austin and son-in-law, Robert J. Foster, Sr. Burial: Crestlawn Memorial Park. Mr. John Denson "Dink" Blades, 89 of Mobile, AL a former resident of Moss Point, MS, died September 21, 2008 in Mobile, AL. He was born January 16, 1919 to the late John Wesley and Mary Augusta Blades. Dink served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and retired from G.E. Sales & Service in Pascagoula, MS. A longtime member of First Baptist Church of Moss Point, he was a current member of Christ Fellowship Baptist Church in Mobile, AL. Interment: Machpelah Cemetery, Pascagoula. Justin Golden, 23, of Vancleave, MS died Sept. 21, 2008. Mr. Lester H. Green, 85, of Vancleave, MS, died September 21, 2008, in Diamondhead. Mr. Green was born in Stony Point, NY and had been a resident of the coast for the past three years. He was a WW II Veteran of the U. S. Navy. Mr. Green was preceded in death by his wife, Betsy Green. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Earl W. Hendricks age 48, a resident of Pascagoula, MS since 2000, died September 21, 2008 in a local hospital. Born April 13, 1960 in Houston, TX to the late Ulmont Earl and Valerie Geane Brawner Hendricks. A time of remembrance will be held at O’Bryant-O’Keefe F. H. in Pascagoula. Willie Toby McLaurin Jr., age 82, of Ocean Spring, MS, died Sept. 21, 2008 in Metairie, LA. Will was born July 16, 1926, in Ocean Springs to the late Will McLaurin, Sr. and May House McLaurin. Will united in holy matrimony with the late Clara. Preceded him in death: his father and mother, Will and May McLaurin; brother, Fred McLaurin; step-brothers, Curly, Arny and Bill McLaurin; sister, Ruby Mae McLaurin; son, Paul McLaurin . The life of Willie McLaurin was celebrated at Freewill Baptist Church, Ocean Springs. Sept. 22 Mrs. Shirley (Law) Rainey, age 100, of Ocean Springs, MS died September 22, 2008 in Ocean Springs. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Rainey of nineteen years; her parents, James and Nancy Jane Law; daughters, Judy Rainey and Dorothy White; son, Randy Strebeck; sister, Nora Patterson and by her six brothers. Survivors include her daughters, her sons, along with twenty grandchildren, twenty five great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren. Interment: Belle Fountain Baptist Church Cemetery, Ocean Springs. Sept. 23 Mrs. Norma Garst, 70, of Ocean Springs, MS died September 23, 2008, in Ocean Springs. She was a longtime resident of the Gulf Coast. Born and raised in Liverpool, England. She met her husband, David, while he was stationed in England with the Air Force. They were married for 51 years. Mrs. Garst was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Edwards, and Stanley and Emily Bartlett, sisters, Mary Swain, Maisie Edwards, and Laura Hennessy. She was born January 28th, 1914 in Brookport, Ill. Louise retired from Brumfield's Department Store where she worked in the Linen Department for over 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Lester D. Reams. Burial: Crestlawn Memorial Park. Sept. 30 George Rodriguez, age 75, of Ocean Springs, MS died September 30, 2008 in Ocean Springs. George was a native of Puerto Rico a long-time resident of NY, NY and resident of Ocean Springs for 36 years. He was a member of the United States Air Force and served two tours in Vietnam. Mr. Rodriguez was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Taylor. Funeral service will be held at the O.S. Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes.
