Dixie tought third graders for 28 years at Charlotte Hyatt Elementary in Moss Point. She was grateful for Dantzler Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a lifelong member and belonged to the Agape Sunday School Class. She was a beautiful and accomplished woman, having been voted Most Beautiful each year throughout high school and was Homecoming Queen for Moss Point High School her senior year. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Joseph W. Wilson, born in Michigan, and Virginia Ellen Simms Wilson, born in Jasper Co., MS. He was born January 7, 1934 in Jackson County, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wyatt and Norma Gill, and a son, Leslie Dean Gill. Mr. Alfred Theodore Mort Jr., age 82, of Ocean Springs, died October 1, 2008, in Ocean Springs.He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Mort, Sr. and Zelma Fowler Mort, a sister, Betty Greiner and a brother, Bill Mort. Memorial Service: Bradford O'Keefe Funeral Home. Oct. 2 Dr. John Marvin Alford, Jr., of Ocean Springs, MS died Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the V.A. Nursing Facility in Kosciusko, MS. He was born July 1, 1921, in Drewry, AL, the son of the late John Marvin Alford, Sr. and Josie Lauritzen Alford. Dr. He was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children, Virginia Alford; brother, Lauritzen Alford; sister, Beryl Longman. Dr. Alford was a U.S. Navy veteran where he served as a surgeon. Upon discharge he opened an active general medical practice in Greenwood, MS for nearly fifty years. During his years living on the Gulf Coast he volunteer his services with the Home of Grace facility for drug and alcohol abuse for men, in Vancleave, MS, and spent time with the Walter Anderson Museum of art in Ocean Springs, MS. Upon moving to Tupelo he became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Services: Tupelo Chapel of Holland-Harris Funeral. Burial will follow in Lindsey Cemetery, Tishomingo County. Hattie Fantroy, 92, of Moss Point, Ms died Oct. 2, 2008. Oct. 3 Samuel Terrell Graham, age 82, of Pascagoula, MS died October 3, 2008 in a local care center. Born November 24 1925 in Waynesboro, MS to the late Earnest Dewey and Lonie Mae Eubanks Graham. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pascagoula. Diana Osteen, 59, of Ocean Springs, MS, died October 3, 2008 in Biloxi. Oct. 4 David C. Hood, Sr., 65, was born in Morgantown, WV, died October 4, 2008 in Ocean Springs, MS. Harold "Joe" Saylor, 77, of Ocean Springs, MS, formerly of Eldora, Iowa, died Saturday, October 4, 2008, at the Grand Bay Convalescent Home, Grand Bay, Alabama. Mass of Christian Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldora. Joe was born June 12, 1931, in Rockford, Iowa, son of Glenn M. and Angeline M. (Paulus) Saylor. Joe made the military his career serving with both the U.S. Navy and the Air Force being stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Italy, and Turkey and reaching the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was a veteran of both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Joe married Doris Stewart in 1965. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Maurice, Erwin, James, and Richard "Joe." Oct. 5 Mrs. Betty Alice Brown, 74, of Vancleave died October 5, 2008 in Ocean Springs, MS. She was born in Wortham, a small community outside of Gulfport. She was preceded in death by her son, Nick Alonzo Williams, three brothers, Gary O'Neal Williams, Bobbie Ray Williams and Ezekiel Williams and a grandson, Lionel Nathaniel Dayan Wells. He was born April 2nd 1932 in Newton County, MS to the late William Lafate Parker and Ludie Harrell Parker. Mr. Parker served as a medic in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Parker is preceded in death by his parents, a Brother Ferrell Parker, Sisters: Ruby Poole and Dale Hodge. Burial: Biloxi National Cemetery. She was born to Luther and Corty Campbell on April 27, 1928, in Jones County, MS. Doris lived in various parts of the United States due to her husband being in the United States Air Force. She was married to Eugene W. Tisdale for 41 years and had three children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene W. Tisdale; her daughter, Mary Margaret Tisdale Aricer; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther (Corty) Campbell; and her bothers Josh Campbell, Boone Campbell, S. L. Oct. 6 Jean Anderson Foster, age 66 of Ocean Springs, MS died October 6, 2008 in Biloxi. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Foster, Sr. Services will be private. Oct. 7 Dr. William E. Barial, 69, of Mobile, AL, died October 7, 2008. Barial was a native of Pascagoula, Jackson County, MS. Dr. Barial was an early pioneer of pediatric medicine by establishing his private practice in the African- American community. He served as Clinical Assistant Professor-Department of Pediatrics, University of South Alabama College of Medicine and full-time practice of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at the University. He was former President of Alabama State and Mobile Bay Medical Association and medical director for Mobile County Headstart. He was a member of the National Medical Association and Mobile County's Medical Society. He was a Florida A&M University Academic Recruiter, Inductee-Florida A&M University School of Pharmacy "Hall of Fame," Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Chairman of the Board of the Southwest Alabama Sickle Cell Association, Palestine Temple #18 (Past Pontentate), Charter Member of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, 100 Black Men Inc., Jack & Jill of America Inc., and honored by Mobile Press- Register as "M.O Beale Scroll of Merit" 1991. Mr. Gathan Daniel Borden, Jr., age 81, born in Hurley, MS and a long time resident of Mobile, AL died October 7, 2008. His father, John Milam preceded him in death. Bill leaves behind a daughter, Amber Yarber; his mother, Juanita Milam and a brother, Harvey Milam. Charles L. Whatley, 66, Woodbridge, VA, died 7 Oct 2008. Mr. Whatley was born on 12 May 1942 in Pascagoula, MS, the son of Leslie "Scooter" Whatley and Dortha Cummins Whatley. Mr. Whatley served two years in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961 in Germany. Mr. Whatley was preceded in death by his father, mother and three brothers. Yarber, age 73, of Ocean Springs, MS died October 7, 2008, in Ocean Springs. Mrs. Yarber obtained a Masters Degree at the age of 53 in Library Science from the University of Southern Mississippi. She ran the Technical Services Department for the Jackson-George County Library for eight years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Yarber a daughter, Karen Chandler and a sister, Marjorie Koechner. Oct. 9 Jay Julian Bautista, age 64, of Pascagoula, MS died October 9, 2008 in Newton, New Jersey. Mr. Bautista was born February 16, 1944, in Franklin, NJ, and lived in Ogdensburg, NJ, until his graduation from high school. Douglas, 84, born June 18, 1924, died October 9, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy. Mr. Paul was a Marine Corps veteran of WWII, enlisting in the Marines after graduating High School in 1942. He was a long time resident of Ocean Springs, MS. Mrs. Hazel Eulene Harris, 69, of Pascagoula, died October 9, 2008. She was born September 30, 1939 in Etowah Co., AL. Mrs. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Oct. 18 Susie Marie Harrell, age 81, of Moss Point, MS died October 18, 2008 in Pascagoula. She was born on February 28, 1927 in Chatom, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband James Harrell, two daughters; Jimmie L. Cox and Theresa C. Kibby, two sons; Larry H Harrell, and Franklin Harrell. He was born October 8, 1965 in Pascagoula, Ms. He graduated from Pascagoula High School and then enlisted into the Army where he was honorably discharged as a MP3. He was a former owner of a Pawn Shop in Pascagoula and Small Engine Repairs shops. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Leon Williams; son-in- law, David Paul Anderson. Graveside Service: Biloxi National Cemetery. Oct. 19 Kenneth (Ken) Daniel Muller, LCDR, USN, Retired , age 62 of Gautier, MS died October 19, 2008 in Ocean Springs, MS. Ken was born in New Orleans, LA on December 5, 1945 to Hazel and Al Muller. He was commissioned in the United States Navy after college. After proudly serving his country for 21 years in the Navy including tours on the USS America; USS Venture; USS Barney; Navy Recruiting Command, Jacksonville, Florida; USS William C. Lawe; Ingalls Naval Ship Yard; USS Saratoga; Naval Air Station Meridian; North Atlantic Treaty Organization; Brussels, Belgium, he retired as a Lieutenant Commander with his family to Gautier, MS. She was preceded in death by her parents Otis and Thelma Johnson; husband Richard Dick; two grandchildren Troy Glen Crone and Shani Lieann Crone.
