Cooley and Eleanor Turek Cooley; brother, Arthur Cooley. Interment at Machpelah Cemetery. Mary Kate Haydel, 87 of Pascagoula, MS died January 1, 2008. She was born April 17, 1920 in Farmerville, LA to the late Guy and Kate Mullins Hicks. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Richard Joseph Haydel ; her brothers, Howard Hicks, Mitchell Hicks, and Sam Bennett Hicks; her sisters, Frank Hicks Byrd, Betty Hicks, and Guyline Hicks. Interment at Jackson County Memorial Park. Mrs. April Marie Childress Stauter, 52, of Pascagoula, Miss., passed away Jan. 1, 2008, in Gulfport, Miss. She was born April 8, 1955, in New Orleans, La. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Gertie Childress. Interment at Griffin Cemetery. James C. Totten, Jr. age 49, of Moss Point died January 1, 2008. Walls, 79, of Moss Point, Miss., passed away Jan. 1, 2008. She was born Dec. 6, 1928, in Jackson County,. Preceding her in death were her parents, Robert E. and Althea S. Chapman; first husband, Daniel E. Cooper Sr.; second husband, E. O. Walls; and son, Daniel E. Cooper Jr. Interment at Serene Memorial Gardens. Jan 2 Ms. Daisy M. Jones died Jan. 2, 2008. Born July 29, 1957, in Pensacola, Fla., Daisy was preceded in death by her father, Claude Hudson, of Cedar Town, Fla. Interment will be in Machpelah Cemetery. Mary Evelyn Snow, 75 of Waynesboro, Ms passed away, January 2, 2008. Mrs Snow was born September 15, 1932 in Laurel, MS. to the late James Artis and Emma Victoria Jenkins. She was a longtime resident of Gautier. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Luther W. Jan 3 Billy Lavell Sanders, 80 of Indianapolis, IN, died, January 3, 2008 at Richard L Roudenbush VA Medical Center. He was born in Weir, MS, April 30, 1927. Mr. Sanders was the former owner of the Old Oak Marina in Gautier, MS. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a 32nd degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Helen Sanders; his parents, Johnny L. and Mammie D. Sanders; four brothers, Donald, Louie, James and George Sanders. The funeral service will follow at in the chapel with Rev. Larry McVeay officiating. Interment will be at Salem Cemetery in Kosciusko, MS. with military honors. Addie Loper Sweeney, 90, of Moss Point, Miss. Addie was born on March 11, 1917, in Neshoba County, Miss. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Scotty Loper. Graveside service will be Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Bethel Cemetery in Neshoba County, MS. William Ray Waller, 67, passed away Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008. He was called home to his heavenly father after suffering from a rare illness called Shy-Drager. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Martha Waller. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Helena, Miss. Jan 4 George Leatherbury Lewis Jr., 55, of Escatawpa, Miss., died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008. Mr. Lewis was born Jan. 9, 1952, in Pascagoula. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Genevieve Lewis Sr.; brother, Robert Lewis; and a grandchild, Charles Michael Lewis Jr. Burial in Machpelah Cemetery. Oscar B. "Blackie" Rouse, 88, of Pascagoula, Miss., died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008. He was born Dec. 5, 1919, in George County, Miss. Mr. Rouse was of the Baptist faith, WWII Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, Webb and Ola Rouse; a daughter, Karla Gordon; mother of his children, Betty Rouse Newbill; and his second wife, Jenny Rouse. Burial will follow at Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula, Miss. Frank Wells, 53, was born March 30, 1954, in Philadelphia, Miss. He passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2008. He was preceded in death by his father, James Rueben Wells; his brothers, Jimmy Dale and Tommy Jean; sister, Barbara Faye; and niece, Tasha Wells. Burial will follow in Scranton Cemetery in Pascagoula, Miss. Jan 5 Robert “ Bob” Lamar Albritton, 62 of Gautier, MS. passed away Saturday, January 5, 2008 at his home. Bob as he was known was born August 16, 1945 in Picayune, Ms to the late George and Margaret Albritton. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Gibson and Virginia Remfert; one brother, Tommy Albritton. Memorial Service will be at the Funeral Home in Gautier, MS. Mr. Joseph "Joe" Flemon Grantham, a native of Philadelphia, Miss., and a resident of Mobile, Ala., died on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Grantham. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. Tamara Uspenski Maksimova Orlova died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, at the age of 82 in New Orleans. A survivor of the Battle of Stalingrad at age 19, Tamara's descendants include her daughter, Nadia Potehina Gautier, and husband, Thomas M. Gautier of Metairie, La., her grandson, Aleks Potehins of Denver, Colo., and her great-grandsons, Dennis Iljinicika and Alexey Potehins Jr. Born Nov. 24, 1925, in Russia, she was raised in Moscow in the Uspen-ski/Maksimova family of nine children. She graduated from Moscow University in business administration and then worked and raised her family in Riga, Latvia, with her military officer husband, Eugenij Orlov. Following his demise and then her retirement, Tamara moved to New Orleans in 2001 to live with her daughter and family. A Mass of Christian burial will be held to commemorate her life at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Quinn Drive, Pascagoula, Miss., on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008. A reception for the family and friends of Tamara Orlova will follow from 2 to 4 at La Maison, Gautier, Hwy. 90, Gautier. Jan 6 Kimberly Elizabeth Brooks, died Jan. 6, 2008. The viewing will be held at Lawrenceville, GA, Jan. 9, 2008. She will be laid to rest at Alcova Baptist Church, 1556 Alcovy Road, Lawrenceville, GA, Jan. 10, 2008. Mr. Willard Roger Hall, 65, of Wade, Miss. died Jan. 6, 2008, at his home. He was born April 25, 1942, in Pageton, W.Va. He was preceded in death by his father, George Hall; wife, Doris Jean Hall; son, Joe Hall; sisters, Peggy Myers and Corrine Blevins. Interment will follow at Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula. Mrs. Rita Mae Gentile Krebs age 90 of Pascagoula, MS died Sunday, January 6, 2008. Mrs. Krebs was born May 26, 1917 to the late John B. and Emma Ashcraft Gentile in Pascagoula, MS. Mrs. Krebs was a vital part of the Genealogy and Local History Department of Jackson County dating back the 1960’s. Her work and contributions earned recognition in 2007 when the Jackson- George Regional Library System permanently name the genealogy volunteer of the year award the “Rita Krebs Genealogy Volunteer of the Year” award. Mrs. Krebs served as treasurer of the Jackson County Genealogy Society for more than four decades. Her work and continued love and devotion for the preservation of the history of Jackson County helped lay the foundation for all future research. She set the bar high for those who follow in her footsteps a debt that will be appreciated by generations to come. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband John Edward “J. E.” Krebs and a sister Janice Gentile. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Pascagoula with Mass of Christian Burial will follow with Father Patrick McDermott serving as celebrant. Interment will follow in Krebs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations to Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church or Jackson County Genealogy Society. Jan 7 Ms. Betty Jean Odom Burress passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2008. She was born unto the late Mr. Carther and Katie (Liddell) Odom on July 11, 1949, in Moss Point, Miss. She was the last child of seven children born to this union. Betty was educated at Magnolia High School, class of 1968. She was preceded in death by her father, and one brother, Mr. Clarence Odom. Interment will be in First Baptist Cemetery, Pascagoula. Mrs. Lurline Anderson Mardis, age 86, of Gautier, Miss., passed away Jan. 7, 2008, at her home. She was born Jan. 11, 1921, in Hattiesburg, Miss. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hopson A. Anderson Sr. and Etta Polk Anderson; husband, Herbert Coy Mardis Jr.; brothers, Benny, Webb, Hopson, Cliff and Shorty Anderson. Graveside services will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery in Biloxi, Miss. Major Michael L. Green, 36, of Gautier, Miss., died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, in Afghanistan where he was serving his country in the U.S. Army. He was born April 6, 1971, in Pascagoula, Miss., to Hacy E. and Jane Breland Green and was raised in Gautier. He attended grade school in Gautier, and went to Pascagoula High School through his junior year. He graduated from Buckhannon High School in Buckhannon, W.Va., and Fairmont State College in Fairmont, W.Va., where he was a member of the ROTC. Upon graduation he entered the U.S. Army, and fulfilling a life long dream of serving in the armed forces. At the time of his death, Major Green was serving with V-Corps Heidelberg, Germany. Major Green will be deeply missed by all who knew him as well as a grateful nation. Funeral services will be held from First Baptist Church of Gautier, with Reverend LeBatard officiating. Rodney was born Aug. 28, 1966, in Port St. Joe, Fla. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ellis Varnes and Ellzey and Estelle Little. Mr. Fred Wood Jr. of Helena, Miss., passed away Jan. 9, 2008. He was born in McComb, Miss., on May 7, 1929. Jan 10 Josephine Barr Hammond, 81, of Moss Point, Miss., died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, in Pascagoula, Miss. She was born Jan. 2, 1927, in Harrisonburg, La. Mrs. Hammond was preceded in death by her parents, Wilburn and Florrie Pierce Barr; stepmother, Martha Elizabeth Barr; her husband, Harry Hammond; and one son, Larry Wayne Hammond. Burial will follow at Orange Grove Cemetery in Moss Point. Dorothy (Hamilton) Johnson, 73, formerly of Gautier, Miss., died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, in the home of her daughter in Bethlehem, Pa. She had shared over 44 years of marriage with her late husband, Creid. Born in West New York, N.J., she was a daughter of the late John and Josephine Hamilton. Dorothy was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor. Services: Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 1861 Catasauqua Road, Bethlehem, PA. Burial will be private in Gautier, Miss. Henry E. Piechowski, age 95, a lifelong resident of Redgranite, Wis., passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2008, in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He was born to Joseph and Anna (Schultz) Piechowski on July 16, 1912 on the family farm south of Redgranite. On May 28, 1938, he married Esther Jakubowski of Milwaukee. They raised twelve children, ensuring that all received excellent education and training. He had 25 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther (Jakubowski); son Donald; grandchildren Loretta Dolata Bultman, Matthew, and Christopher; and great- grandchildren, Hannah and Logan. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his eleven brothers and sisters and their spouses. A 1929 graduate of Redgranite High School, he was a commercial bee-keeper and owned Henry's Honey Farm in Redgranite and Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He was a pioneer in his field, establishing pollination services and marketing programs for honey in Wisconsin and throughout the country. He held leadership positions in the Wisconsin Honey Producers Association and the American Beekeeping Federation. During his 95 years, he was active in the community, in his church, and in business organizations. In Mississippi, he was a member of St. Alphonsus and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parishes and was active in the historical society in Ocean Springs. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Mark's Parish in Redgranite on Monday January 21, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow in Saint Marks Catholic Cemetery in Redgranite. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Ocean Springs, Miss. and will be announced. Jan 11 Duard J. Driver Jr. was a resident of Grand Bay, Ala. He was born in Gulfport, Miss., on April 2, 1937. He was known to his friends and family as "D. J." . Passed away Jan. 11, 2008, in Biloxi at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by his parents, Duard J. and Estelle Driver, Sr. and a great-granddaughter, Jayla Nikole Morie. Johnny Royce Yarbrough, 76, of Pascagoula, Miss., died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, in Pascagoula, Miss. He was born Nov. 11, 1931, in Paris, Texas. Mr. Yarbough attended the Church of Christ, retired from the U.S. Navy, was current Treasurer of the Pascagoula Masonic Lodge No. 419, was Past Master of the Pascagoula Masonic Lodge, Past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star of Pascagoula, a member of Joppa Temple Shriners and at the time of his death he was an active Jackson County Deputy, Court Security Division. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Preston and Mittie Mae Morgan-Yarbrough. Jan 13 James Calvin Fortenberry, age 83, of Gautier, Miss., passed away Jan. 13, 2008, at his home. Mr. Fortenberry was born July 31, 1924, in Oak Vale, Miss. Mr. Fortenberry was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Robbins Fortenberry and his parents, Parkman A. and Emma Jones Fortenberry. Cemetery: Private. Domonique M. He was the great nephew of William Harris Hardy, founder of Gulfport and Hattiesburg, MS. Mr. Hardy was born on August 4, 1914 in Newton, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Harris and Norma Middleton Hardy; his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Enochs Hardy; and his brothers, Charles Judson Hardy, Harris Middleton Hardy, and Alan Meredith Hardy.
