Jan. 15 James Manning Cain, 89, a resident of Ocean Springs, MS, died January 15, 2010 at his residence. He died as he lived - a courageous Irishman. Mr. Cain was born in Canton, MS, to Robert and Minnie Louise Cain. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps, and flew 51 missions as a pilot in a B-17 bomber in the European Theater during World War II. He also served in the Korean Conflict, retiring from the Judge Advocate General's Office of the Air Force as a Major. He was a member of the Order of Daedalians, an association of Air Force pilots. Preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Caldwell Cain and his father, Samuel Robert Cain; and his brothers, Frederick, Robert, and Billy Cain. The school baseball field was named in his honor. Previous to his coaching career at MGCCC, he also coached at numerous high schools in Mississippi. He was a member of the Hall of Fame of the Mississippi Association of Junior Colleges, the National Junior College Athletic Association, and the Mississippi Association of Coaches. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clay Farris; and his brother, Vernon Farris. While serving in public interest, Mr. Witchen was part of two firsts for local governments, as a councilman on the first ever city manager-council form for the city of Pascagoula in 1969 and also as a member of the first board of directors for the MS Regional Wastewater Authority which was established in 1980. He served 8 years as a councilman and 27 years as a director for the Jackson County Wastewater Authority. Preceded in death by his first wife, Doris K.
