Mrs. Connell was sent to Whitfield Funeral Home in Zephyrhills, FL for services and burial. Nov. 2 Sylvia Lavon Saunders, age 87, of Ocean Springs died November 2, 2008 in Ocean Springs. She was the owner/operator of Lavon's Beauty Shop in Biloxi for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Evans and Hattie Frye; her first husband, Marvin Eugene Holbrook; a daughter, Sylvia Jean Vick, five sisters and two brothers. Interment: Coalville Cemetery, Biloxi. Nov. 3 Carver L. "Foots" Cunningham Jr., age 78, died November 3, 2008 in Mandeville, LA. C.L. was born in Moss Point on September 18, 1930, and was a lifelong resident of Moss Point. He was a veteran with the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict, and he was also in charge of the Jackson County Sheriffs Flotilla for many years. Mr. Cunningham was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. C. L. and Cora Irene Cunningham, and a grandson Chad E. Roney. Services: F.H. Rev. Paul Roney officiating. Burial: Machpelah Cemetery. Jean E. Sumrall, 72, a native and resident of Moss Point, died at a local hospital Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2008. Nov. 4 Stephan Halmi, 61, of the Forts Lake Community, MS died Nov. 4, 2008 in Pascagoula, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents Stefon and Julie Halmi. Private services. Terry Dale Monk, 72, of Gautier, MS died November 4, 2008 in Gautier. Terry was born in Louin, MS on October 22, 1936 but lived in Moss Point for most of his life. Terry graduated at Moss Point High School, where he lettered in football, baseball and basketball; and was voted Mr. Moss Point High. He then spent one year at Jones County Junior College, then moved on to Mississippi College, where he graduated with distinction in Industrial Chemistry. After graduation, he went to work at Thiokol Chemical Plant where he would work his way up from chemist to supervisor to production manager to Plant Manager in 1976. He remained there until his retirement in 1997. Terry's civic activities included Moss Point School Board, Jackson County United Way Board and also Chairman of the Board for Singing River Bank. He was a coach in the Dixie Youth Baseball league and pee wee football. He was a member of the local and state Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club and Kiwanis Club. He was voted Outstanding Citizen of Jackson County in 1976. Terry started officiating football in 1964, with pee wee and junior high games. He worked his way up to high school and then in 1980, he made it into the college level with SICOA where he was selected to referee many bowl games. He then moved to the newly formed Big East in 1991, where he was selected to referee more bowl games including the Army Navy game and Big East Championship game and his final game the 1997 Rose Bowl. Terry was also very active in Jackson County Carnival Association, where he was Parade Marshall, King of the Krewe of Venus, Mystic Order of Muses and Jackson County Hairdressers Balls. He served as Master of Ceremonies for Krewe of Venus, Krewe of Niord, Krewe of Tri-Cities and the Pascagoula Country Club Balls. Mr. Monk is preceded in death by his son Kyle L. Monk, parents George Monk, Sr. and Juanita Ishee Monk; his sister Charlotte Kay Kennedy. Visitation and Memorial services: Eastlawn Methodist Church, 2502 Ingalls Ave, Pascagoula. Mrs. Mary Anaïs Flechas Penola, age 96, of Pascagoula died Nov. 4, 2008. Born January 3, 1912. Preceded in death by her husband, Albert William Penola, parents Miguel Martin Flechas and Mary Louise Walker Flechas, siblings Condalaura Flechas Browne, Ferdinand “Ferdie” Flechas, Mike Flechas, Victoria Flechas Beech, Alfred Flechas, Mary Azalee Flechas Sheridan, and granddaughter Julie Elizabeth Chamberlain. Anaïs retired from Merchants and Marine Bank in 1977 after a 42 year career with the bank. She was treasurer of the Jackson County Historical Society for over 20 years. In 1980, Anaïs was appointed as City Councilwoman for the City of Pascagoula to serve out an unexpired term. Burial: Krebs Cemetery. Nov. 5 Mr. Leo L. "Pete" Webb Jr., age 77, of Moss Point, MS died November 5, 2008 in Moss Point. Mr. Webb was born in January of 1931 in Moss Point. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents; Leo and Genevieve Webb and his son Leo Webb III. Burial: Machpelah Cemetery. Nov. 6 Ruth McIntyre, age 100, of Pascagoula, MS died November 6th, 2008. She was a member of Asbury Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church where she served faithfully on the Stewardess Board and Missionary Society until her health began to fail. She is survived by her 6 children, 2 brothers and 5 sisters; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Interment: Scranton Cemetery in Pascagoula, MS. Orena Lee Enterkin, age 76, of Moss Point, MS died November 6, 2008 in Pascagoula. Born February 22, 1932 in Florida. Private services. Albert Leo Saujon, 83, of Ocean Springs died November 6, 2008 in Ocean Springs. Albert was a Veteran of the Korean War. Preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Bernadette Saujon, first wife, Claire Saujon, second wife, Nina Saujon, sisters, Theresa Tauscher and Valda Kelly. Nov. 7 James Michael "Mike" Black, the son of Benjamin James and Claudia Emma Gladney Black, born November 24, 1949, died November 7, 2008. Mike was a 1969 graduate of Magnolia High School where he was a member of the Mighty Monarch Football Team, playing on the squad of the Dirty Dozen. Michael contributed two years of service to his country in the United States Army, serving in the state and aboard. For fifteen years he gave his services to the City of Moss Point in the capacity of Firefighter, as Lieutenant. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin James Black; mother-in-law, Barnceal Jones, whom he loved as his second mother; and brother-in-law, Glennon “Squeeky" Jones. Interment: First Baptist Cemetery, Escatawpa, MS. Robert A. Gates, Jr., age 61, died November 7, 2008 in Gautier, MS. He graduated from Carver High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Gates, Sr. Burial: St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, Pascagoula Robert H. "Bob" King, 80 of Ocean Springs, MS died November 7, 2008 in Ocean Springs. Mr. King was born in Harrisonburg, LA, a resident of the Gulf Coast since 1931. He was the former owner of King Construction Co. Inc. He is preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Mazie King and granddaughter, Sharonda Annette King. Interment: Biloxi City Cemetery. Ryan Prosser, age 29, died Friday in Pascagoula. Prosser was a resident of Grand Bay, AL. Burial: Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula. Mrs. Mildred Di Santi, age 85, of Pascagoula, MS died Nov. 7, 2008 at her residence.Born February 12, 1923 in Culpepper, VA to the late Dane and Anne Elizabeth Griffith Oliver, she was a long time resident of Pascagoula. Mrs. Di Santi served in the Navy during World War II as a nurse. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dr. Nicholas Di Santi in 1978 and her son Joseph Edwin Di Santi in 1983. Margaret Ann Thompson, age 90, formerly of Laurel, MS died November 7, 2008, in Ocean Springs, where she had resided since the death of her husband. Mrs. Thompson moved to the Coast to be near and to care for her children and grandchildren in 1984. She was preceded in death by her husband, B.B. Thompson, her parents, James Madison and Mittie I'Dora Cox, brothers, Shelton, Bill, Hayward and Howard Cox, and sisters, Lillian Johnson and Evelyn Breazelle, and daughter-in-law, Angie Thompson. Nov. 8 Geraldine Gardner, 67 of Moss Point, Ms died November 8, 2008. Geraldine was born on March 10, 1941 in Lucedale, MS to the late Willie and Hattie Reeves. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Reeves and a grandson, Christian Cunningham. Mrs. Fuller was born January 29, 1941 in Tylertown, Ms. and was a member of Canaan Assembly Of God Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Fuller; father, James M. Nov. 10 Mitzi Purdy Hinman, 83, of Pascagoula died November 10, 2008 in Pascagoula. James A. Tanner, age 76, of Vancleave, MS died November 10, 2008 in Ocean Springs. Mr. Tanner was born in Jackson County, who remained a life-long resident of Vancleave and was a member of the Community of Christ Church. James was preceded in death by his wife, Nena Doris Tanner. She was born April 7, 1916 in Benndale, MS and was married on December 12, 1942 to Kenneth Wilson Erikson who died in July 1999. She is preceded in death by her father, Albert Bruce Daffin; mother, Winnie Louise Hartzog Daffin; husband, Kenneth Wilson Erikson; son, Jerold Bruce Erikson; sisters, Irma Havens and Pearl Lee Daffin; brothers, Alton, Clyde, Earl, and Elwin Daffin. Johnston, 87, of Ocean Springs, MS died Nov. 13, 2008. He was born May 14, 1921 in Carthage, MS. After serving in the United States Army during Korea, Mr. Johnston attended University of MS Law School. He briefly practiced in Carthage until 1958 moving to Jackson County and establishing his Law practice here. Mr. Johnston was Youth Court Judge for Jackson County during 1991-1995. He was the oldest living member of the Jackson County Bar Association. Mr. Johnston was a member of First Baptist Church in Pascagoula. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mable Ruth Johnston; parents, Albert Sidney Johnston, Jr. and Ellie Mae Logan Johnston. Funeral Service will be at First Baptist Church in Pascagoula, MS. Interment will be at Biloxi National Cemetery with Military Honors. Nov. 14 Charles E. Zeigler, 79, of Pascagoula died November 14, 2008 in Pascagoula, MS. Mr. Zeigler was born on June 20, 1930 in Lownes County, GA. He was a veteran with the United States Army and served proudly during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was a member of Parkway Baptist Church where he served as an usher; he was also a cancer survivor. Mr. Zeigler was preceded in death by his wives Jewell F. Zeigler and Carolyn Dale Zeigler. Burial: Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula, MS with military rites. Nov. 15 Brian S. Thicksten, age 37 and a resident of the Gulf Coast, died Saturday, November 15, 2008, in New Orleans, LA. He was born September 16, 1971, in Pascagoula, MS, and was a life-time resident of the Gulf Coast. Brian was a musician along the Gulf Coast, a graduate of Vancleave High School, and worked in construction. Brian was preceded in death by his father, Barry "Bear" Thicksten; grandmothers, Una Lyons, of Gautier, and Catherine Dickerson, of Ocean Springs; and grandfather, William Thicksten, of Gautier. Graveside service: Pine Crest Cemetery in Gautier. Nov. 17 Richard Emanuel Burt, 53, of Pascagoula, MS. passed away November 17, 2008 in Pascagoula. Mr. Burt was born in Meridian, MS. on June 14, 1955. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Ruth Burt; his brother Ronnie Burt; and his sisters Bettie Jordan and Fay Rascoe. Burial: Orange Grove Cemetery in East Moss Point, MS. Bernard Hugh Krebs, 82, of Pascagoula, MS, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2008. Born on January 24, 1926, in Pascagoula, Mr. Krebs served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Opening his own automobile business, K & M Motors, with his father-in-law, A. B. Morse. Becoming the Oldsmobile dealer in 1960, Mr. Krebs acquired the Cadillac franchise in 1976 and operated Krebs Olds- Cadillac until 1984. He was a charter member of Citizen's National Bank and served on the Board of Directors for SouthTrust and Wachovia Banks. Mr. Krebs was appointed to the Jackson County Port Authority by Governor Bill Waller and to the A & I Board by Governor Cliff Finch. Mr. Krebs was a life-long member of Christ Lutheran Church where he served in many positions including President of the congregation, Elder and Board of Trustees. He was preceded in death by his father, Mark Hugh Krebs, and mother, Anna Josephine Brondum Krebs. Interment: Machpelah Cemetery. Brenda Odom Mashburn, age 58 of Pascagoula, MS died November 17, 2008 in Gulfport, MS. Brenda Odom Mashburn was born July 9, 1950 to Roland Odom and Doris Pittman in Pascagoula, MS. She graduated from Pascagoula High School and was well known for her artistic oil paintings. She received many awards and honors for her talent. She was preceded in death by Peggy Joyce Odom, Roland Benjamin Odom, Doris Pittman Odom, Thomas (Sonny) Odom, and Carolyn Odom Dickerson. She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Peggy Ann Mashburn Broadus of Stone County, MS; her sisters, Marguerite Odom of Ocean Springs and JoAnn Towles of Mobile, AL; four grandchildren, Skyler W. Mashburn, Jerod B. Mashburn, Asley N. Broadus, and Bethany A. Mashburn. Burial: Machpelah Cemetery. Mr. William Warren Moore, age 92, died November 17, 2008 at his residence in Vancleave, Ms. He was born August 24, 1916 in Prichard, Ala. He retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding as a pipefitter at the age of 70. He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Lindsey Moore, his parents, James and Pearler Moore, one brother, Jamison Moore and two sisters, Elizabeth Kyte and Edith Zuiderhoek. The funeral service: First Baptist Church Vancleave. Burial will be at the cemetery on Jim Ramsey Road. Florine Broadus Rouse, age 86, of Honoraville, AL died November 17, 2008 in Pascagoula, MS. She was the daughter of Rev. George Albert Broadus and Lydia Louise (Lee) Broadus. She was born in Silver Run, MS on August 17, 1922. Florine B. Rouse held her B.A. and M.A. in education. She was a school teacher of 17 years teaching in LA, MS, and AL. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, Eastern Star, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Liberty United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Lamont C. Rouse. Survivors include her five children all of Jackson County, MS; and Gulfport, MS; two sisters; 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren. Nov. 18 Ms. Grace Miller, born October 12, 1936 in Pascagoula, MS, died November 18, 2008 in Ocean Springs, MS. Ms. Miller was a dietitian with the Department of Human Services in New York. She later relocated back to Pascagoula, MS about 14 years ago. She is preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Fessie, Bessie Mae and Fannie. Services: Robinson's Funeral Home Chapel, Moss Point, MS. Nov. 19 Perry Lloyd Stephens, Sr., age 58, of Ocean Springs, MS died November 19, 2008, in Ocean Springs. He was a US Navy Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Eula Mae Stephens, and four brothers, Barry Stephens, Jerry Stephens, Gary Stephens and Harry Stephens. On Friday, November 21, 2008, there will be a Memorial Service at Mr. Stephens's residence in Ocean Springs. Mr. Dale Stephen Adams, age 51, died at his home in Biloxi after a courageous battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Phyllis Adams and a brother Darrell Adams. Griffith, Sr., her parents, Ivy Grissom and Emmalene Parker along with her step-father, Wilbur John Parker. Survivors include her daughter, Ida Marie "Sissy" (Rodney) Craig, two step-daughters, Selma Mae Meredith and Edna James; four sons, Henry "Gene" (Vicky) Griffith, Russell H. Vivian Estelle Michael, 79, of Pascagoula, MS died November 20, 2008 surrounded by family. Vivian was born May 28, 1929 in Huntsville, AL to the late Thomas and Irene Gentle. She attended Gautier Church of Christ. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James J. Michael; a son, Teddy Michael and a brother, Lloyd Gentle. She is survived by three daughters, Diana Clark and her husband Wayne of Forts Lake, Deborah Davis and her husband Tommy of Vancleave, and Melissa Hennis of Semmes, AL; 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and a multitude of friends. She was born on July 30, 1942 in Port St. Joe, FL to the late Richard “Captain Dickie” and Bertha Williams. Interment will be in Panama City, FL at Greenwood Cemetery. Aubreigh Paige Seaman, died November 21, 2008 in Pascagoula MS. Aubreigh Paige leaves behind her loving mother April Lynn Seaman, her maternal grandparents; Terry and Tracy Seaman, her maternal great grandparents; Wayne and Lawanda Rogers and her maternal great-great grandmother Lillie Gentry. Velma Ozell Hall, 87, of Pascagoula, MS passed away November 21, 2008 in Pascagoula. Mrs. Hall was born in Neshoba County, MS on March 5, 1921. She was preceded in death by husband Felbert Hall, daughter Karen Hames, sister Josey Hit, and brothers Hugh Jenkins, Willie Jenkins Jr. Burial: Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula. Sven Jakob Svensson, age 90 died November 21,2008 in Pascagoula, MS. Sven was born in Aleson, Norway and raised in Vamb, Sweden. He was in the Swedish Navy at the beginning of World War II and spent the rest of the war on allied merchant ships. He was preceded in death by parents; Sven Fredrick and Ottine Leite Svensson, a sister; Karen Svensson and one brother Karl Svensson. Entombment: Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula, MS. Nov. 23 Barshander Diann Washington, age 28, was born March 21, 1980 in Pascagoula, MS. On Sunday, November 23, 2008 in Pascagoula, MS. She was a native of Moss Point but resided in Gautier until her death. Mr. Johns was preceded in death by his wife Melinda Johns and parents, James and Rosa Lee Johns. Nov. 26 Capt. Franklin D. Bosarge, age 84, a native of Jackson County, MS. and a longtime resident of Bayou La Batre, AL died on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at a local hospital. He was a WWII Naval Veteran, and a Tug Boat Captain for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Decatur and Willie Bosarge. Burial: Oddfellow Cemetery, Bayou La Batre, Mobile County, AL. L. C. Faggard, Jr., 86 of Wade, MS died November 25th, 2008 in Mobile, AL. He was born October 15, 1922 in Wade, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, L.C. Faggard Sr. and Carl Magnolia Goff Faggard; as well as several brothers and sisters. Mr. Gray was a native of Enterprise, MS and a member of Flowing River of Life Ministries. He was a high school graduate and retired from Ingalls Shipyard. He also received a Bronze Star. He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry Gray Sr. and his mother Essie Mae Gray. Interment in Biloxi National Cemetery. Richard Edmund Ricks, Sr., 52, of Moss Point, MS passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008. He was born August 14, 1956 in Pascagoula. Mr. Ricks graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1975. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Edmund and Meadie Martin; Martin and Myrtle Bell Ricks; father-in-law, Al G. Nance. Funeral Service with Father Patrick McDermott officiating. Nov. 28 Robert Charles (Bob) Brushaber, 71, died November 28, 2008. Born in Toledo, Ohio on March 7, 1937, he moved to the Gulf Coast in the early '50's after being stationed at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, MS. He established Bob's Garage and Wrecker Service in the early '60's and became a well known part of the Community. He was an active member of the Magnolia Classic Cruisers and enjoyed cruising with other members. Preceding him in death was his father, Theodore Brushaber; brother Bill Brushaber; and sister Esther (Sis) Runion. Interment: Serene Memorial Garden Cemetery, Moss Point, Jackson County, MS. His grandsons will be serving as pall bearers. Norma J. Harris Clunan, 70, of Ocean Springs, MS died Friday, November 28, 2008. Mr. Herbert Gene Emrick, of Forts Lake Community (east Jackson County), age 62, died November 28, 2008 Ocean Springs, MS. He was born February 18, 1946 in Philadelphia, MS to the late, John Gordon Emrick and Mildred (Boyd) Pierce. Herb was also preceded in death by his siblings, Virginia Emrick Moore-Hill, Addie W. Emrick, Gordon W. Emrick and Julian E. Emrick. Herb was retired Army First Sgt. with 27 years military service to his country. He received many awards for his committed duty. Betty Mae Edwards, 69, of Ocean Springs, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, in her home surrounded by her loving family after a brave 10-year battle with leukemia. Born Feb. 22, 1939, in Biloxi, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Lucile Palmer Cox. She was a life-long member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs, where she shared her love of the Lord with her family. She was also a member of the Mississippi Coast Watchers and was an Eastern Star. The family will receive visitors Thursday, Dec. 4 at noon at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ocean Springs, followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. and interment of ashes in the church's Memorial Garden. Ms. Hermine Green Fairley of Moss Point, MS died November 28, 2008 at the age of 70. She was born to Charlie & Agnes Green on August 31, 1938, and was a lifelong member of Solomon Temple A.M.E. Zion Church in Moss Point . Hermine was a graduate of the Magnolia High School Class of 1957. She united in Holy Matrimony to Arthur Donald Fairley in April of 1959, and to this union, three children were born. She is preceded in death by her husband, Don, her parents, a sister, Deloris Haynes, and a brother, Reginald Green. Mrs. Merle Newton Ivy, 79, of Pascagoula died Nov. 28, 2008. She was born November 10, 1929 in DeSoto, MS and has been a long time resident of Pascagoula. Mrs. Ivy was a former first grade teacher for 14 years at Beach Elementary and the founding Director of Special Education. She was a former Principal at Fair Elementary for over 15 years. In 1988, she retired after 35 fulfilling years in education. She was a tutor at the Adult Literacy Center. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Delta Kappa, Retired Teachers Association, A.A.R.P., and Pascagoula Garden Club. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pascagoula. Mrs. Ivy was co-owner of Scranton Restaurant in Pascagoula. She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ivy; parents, Jesse and Vera Newton. Visitation: Calvary Baptist Church in Pascagoula.
