He practiced medicine for almost 50 years with 39 of those years being spent in Jackson County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert D. McBroom Jr. and Elesa Woodruff McBroom; and his only sister, Maqueda McBroom Strickland. Dr. McBroom served in the Korean War from 1950-1952 and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Mississippi State University in 1955. He continued his education at Millsaps College to get any courses necessary for medical school and then graduated from the 1st Medical School Class at University of Mississippi in Jackson in 1959. He served on the vestry of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Woodville, Miss., and St. John's Episcopal Church, Pascagoula, Miss., where he was an active member. He was a past Stewardship Commissioner for St. John's in Pascagoula. He was also a licensed lay reader for the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi. He was an active member of Singing River Hospital Systems from 1969 until his death. He served as Singing River Hospital System's chief of staff, chairman of the executive committee, president of Jackson County Medical Foundation, medical director of Plaza Community Living Center from 1977 until his death, chairman of the Internal Medicine Committee four times, a member of the Singing River Hospital Executive Committee, medical director of Amedisys Home Health and a member of Singing River Hospital Medical Ethics Committee. He held memberships in Singing River Medical Society, the Mississippi State Medical Association and the American Medical Association.
