This cemetery is the burial place of family patriarch John McRae, who died in 1825. His sons Colin, John J., and James all held important political offices. John J. McRae served as governor 1854 - 1857. Additional Comments: This cemetery is a small family cemetery that is not in very good shape. The man that has taken care of this cemetery, a neighbor to the plot says that there were more stones but some have disappeared, and a bulldozer has threatened the cemetery. The gate to this cemetery has been torn down for the most part. Directions- Take 1-10 to Exit 61, Gautier-Vancleave exit. Head south off the interstate as far as Gautier Vancleave Road will take you. This will T with Spanish Trail. Take a left onto Spanish Trail. The first stop light that you reach, take a right onto Ladnier Road. After a mile or so, you’ll see a road on your left-hand side named Graveline Road. Take this left-hand turn. The cemetery is on this road about 3 miles down the road on your right hand side, directly after the first stop sign on Graveline. You will see the sign and will need to walk behind the wooded empty plot to the one mausoleum behind. The other three stones are in a private lot, but you can see them through the fence, or ask the owner to go into the back yard (they don’t seem too pleased to have visitors).
