Johnson died on Monday, July 6, 1925, at the home of his son, C.W. Johnson, at Lake Providence, La, and was buried from the Methodist Church at Harriston on Wednesday afternoon, July 8th. Internment was in the Fayette cemetery. Mr. Johnson was a native and a life-long resident of Jefferson county, a son of the late Rev. "Billy" Johnson, a pioneer Methodist preacher and himself a man who left his posterity a proud heritage of service and a good name to keep untarnished. Something more that fifty years ago Mr. Johnson was married to Miss Lavinia Millsaps and to their union several children were born, five of whom, all now grown and married, survive. They are C. W. Johnson of Lake Providence, La; Mrs. (Dr.) T.M. Dye, of Clarksdale, Miss; Mrs. Owen Rucker, of Memphis, Tenn; Bradford Johnson, of McComb, Miss., and Millsaps Johnson, who lives at the family home in this county. Mrs. Johnson died on March 7, 1924. Mr. Johnson was a man of generous impulses and kindly disposition, honorable and straightforward in his dealings with his fellow man and enjoyed universal esteem and higk regard of his neighbors. The writer of these lines enjoyed his friendship for nearly forty years, and mourns his passing with sorrow. Deceased had been a member of the Methodist Church at Harriston probably since the organization of the congregation, and the greater part of the time had been a steward of the church and superintendent of the Sunday school. He was devoted to its high principles and tenets and lived a consistent, faithful Christian life. "He fought a good fight and kept the faith," and we have no doubt laid treasure in heaven. His loss will be sorely felt by the church. The funeral was conducted by Rev. E.D. Simpson, pastor of the Harriston circuit, assisted by Rev. J. L. Smith of Fayette. Both spoke in eloquent terms of Mr. Johnson's life of service and the splendid name which he bequeaths to his children. The sons and daughters have our cordial sympathy. as has also the only surviving brother, Mr. W. Bolls Johnson, who now lives in California.
