D. Gray, who went from here to Mississippi years ago have a large number of friends and relatives in this section who will be interested in an account of their golden wedding. The account is written by a grand-niece of the couple, as is as follows: "Mr. and Mrs. N. D. Gray, of Orrwood, Lafayette county, Miss., celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding on the 26th day of April. A general invitation had been extended to their many friends and relatives throughout the country. Seventy responded by their presence and were entertained in a most genial and hospitable manner by their host and hostess. Quite a number of their nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews, and one great-grand niece, while deeply regretting their inability to be present on such an auspicious occasion, sent presents that were much appreciated by the dear old uncle and aunt. Indeed, the gifts brought by those who were so fortunate as to be present, as well as those sent, were all extremely appropriate, and were highly appreciated. "All of their surviving children, three daughters and two sons, and seventeen of their grandchildren were present. Among the guests were eight persons over seventy years of age, and two beyond eighty. There were three persons present who witnessed the marriage fifty years ago. The eldest of whom, Mrs. Druscilla Wear, Mr. Gray's only surviving sister, aged eighty; Mr. Charles H. Gray, Sr., his only surviving brother, aged seventy-eight; and Mrs. S. C. Carleton, his eldest niece, who remembers the marriage which took place when she was a little girl six or seven years old. Mr. Gray is seventy-four years old, and with his snowy white beard, looks like a grand old patriarch. Mrs. Gray, who was Miss Jane Henderson before her marriage, is now seventy-one years of age. Her soft, silky black hair has scarcely a silver thread among it. She is a beautiful old lady, and the beautiful lives she and her husband have lived shine out in every expression of their features. "They were both born in Mecklenburg county, North Carolina, and in that county were married, April 26, 1838. They afterwards emigrated to Lafayette county, Miss., where they have lived ever since. They both early in life became members of the Presbyterian church, and have reared their children in that faith. For a great many years Mr. Gray has been one of the ruling elders in his church. In their half century of married life, they have had their share of the trials and burdens, griefs and sorrows of this earth; but through it all they have walked hand in hand, with faces ever turned upwards to the 'living fountain of waters,' and with their hearts full of that 'peace which passeth all understanding.'"
