NANCY SEVIER All that was mortal of Mrs. Nancy Sevier, an old time and worthy citizen, was laid to rest at Yockanookany Church last Sunday to await the Reserection Morn. Mrs. Sevier spent many of the best years of her life at the Sevier homestead just across the Southern borders of Attala in Leake County, where she was held in the highest esteem by all who knew her, for "none knew her but to love her." As the highest type of Christian Womanhood; she was a shining mark in her home, in her community, and in her church. She belonged to an old family, being the daughter of Capt. John Nash, who came to Leake County, we think, from Lowndes County, but originally from Alabama. In early life she was happily married to Capt. Henry Sevier, whose ancestors were prominent in the Volunteer State. He was, I think, a grandson of Gov. Sevier, of that state. As wife and mother she acted well her part and reared a large family of children who lived to call her name blessed. Her death occurred at Baton Rouge, La., in the 91st year of her age. She died in her chair as if falling asleep and when her loved ones went to her assistance, she smilingly waved them away, as much as to say the chariot has come. How fitting that a life so useful and full of years should end like the close of a beautiful summer day: The silver cord was broken so gently that it was hard to believe she had crossed the bar. Her funeral services were conducted by an old time friend, John W. Sanders, who is only two years her junior. Peace and rest to her ashes and sympathy to the bereaved ones. Additional Comments: Nancy Adeline Ophelia Nash Sevier lived in the old Sevier-Nash house in Thomastown, MS most of her life. The old house was so well-known that when it burned it was reported in newspapers all across the US.
