J. R. DYE ------- Mr. J. R. Dye, one of Lee County’s oldest and most respected citizens who lived near Brewer, died at his home Saturday afternoon after a short illness. Mr. Dye had not been in good health for some time, but his death was not expected and came as a shock to his family and friends. Mr. Dye was a native of Georgia. When just a boy he volunteered in the Confederate army and enlisted in Company C, 15th Georgia regiment and made a fine soldier. After the war he moved to Mississippi, settling in Lee County. He soon made many friends who remained loyal to the end of his life. He was a faithful member of the Methodist church for many years. He was a devoted husband and father and his death brings great sorrow to his wife and children and host of friends. The funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon by his pastor, Rev. Collins of Shannon, large number being present. Beautiful floral offerings were sent to be laid on his grave.
