XXXIII William Scott Wm. Scott was born in South Carolina November 11, 1832; moved to Mississippi when he was young; lived a short time in Pontotoc county; then settled near Bethany, where he has since lived; married Miss Martha Bryson, a sister of our well known townsman, R.A. Bryson*, in 1859; departed this life Tuesday, April 4, and was laid to rest in Bethany Cemetery Wednesday, 5th , inst, in presence of a large number of sorrowing friends and relatives. Rev. J.L. Boyd conducting the burial services. ---Guntown Hot Times This announcement through the Hot Times is the first news we had of the death [of] Mr. Scott. This announcement will be received with regret by his many friends throughout the county. For many years Mr. Scott was a leading figure in the affairs of his community and County and his passing away will be universally regretted. His bereaved family have our sympathy in their bereavement. He married Martha Allen Bryson. They had the following children: Ellen, who married Andrew Braden; Samuel Augustus, who married Mallisa Belle West; Dolly Ann (Georgeann), who married Elija Bruton; Jane Laura, who married Charles Gordon; Elizabeth Susan (Betty), who married Augustus (Gus) Watt; Nancy A. (Nannie), who did not marry; and Thomas Walter (Bruiser), who married Alma Wilson.
