He was married to Miss Sarah Blaylock, December 22, 1886. To this union was born six children all of which, except one that did in early infancy, with the mother survive him. Brother Smith was converted and joined the M. E. church South under the ministry of Rev. H. C. Parrott at the age of fourteen. Brother Smith lived a consistent Christian life for 43 years. He was for a number of years superintendent of the Sunday school at Hebron church till the condition of is health caused him to ask to be relieved from this responsibility. He lived a quiet unassuming Christian life, and was a regular attendant at Sunday school and church until the end came. Brother Smith was always “ready to give a reason for the hope he had” and just two weeks before his death in a conversation with the writer and speaking of the assurance he had, he said, “I would hate not to know that I was saved.” He lived the victorious life and I am sure when the summons came it found him ready. The day of his death he went to his work at the usual time after dinner and failing to return home at the usual time at night his son went to see what was the matter and found him dead. He had been dead for some timer and this was a great shock to the family. On March 24, 1922 after services by the writer and the last respects of a great concourse of friends he was laid to rest in Spring Hill cemetery. We shall miss him from his accustomed place in the church and Sunday school, but we expect to meet him again some day. C. Wesley Baley, pastor Guntown, Miss.
