 This old cemetery is now among those on the verge of extinction; grown
up in vines and trees with numerous stones overturned, buried or broken.
In the Caledonia region of Lowndes County, it is also the burying ground
of the old Salem Independent Presbyterian Church, and directly connected
with the story of this anti-slavery and pro-Union group who dared to
stand for what they believed when public opinion was very much against
them.  The story of this group of people can be obtained by looking in
the research section.  The following is a recording of this cemetery
which gives some indication of the families closely tied with the
Feemsters and Salem Church.  (Recorded by Rolfe Chase, 1976).
