Our little city is surely on the boom' never before in the history of Artesia has the growth been so rapid and the outlook so promising for a great future for this little town. There has been added to Artesia, in the past few months, an elegant two story hotel with all modern improvements, where the weary traveler may find all the conforts, and plenty of good food that will please the most fastidious epicurian. And then Mr. J. N. Roberts' two story brick store building is equal to any in finish, and latest improvements of any in the state. The new ginnery of Roberts and Watt is one of the most up to date ginnery's and grist mills of any in the county. Here, also, will be found all the latest machinery of its kind, and where every convenience to suit the farmers is thought of and will please the most particular. There has also been erected the nice residence of Mr. J. M. Mason, which is one of the most beautiful in our little town. We are informed that Mr. J. W. Harvey will soon erect an elegant residence in the northern part of the town next to the residence of George Hartsell where he has purchased of Mr. Hartsell a lot sufficient for all buildings and out houses. Mr. George Dewitt is also building a residence to be rented to Mr. J. A. Lamb, the efficient school teacher who will move to our little city as soon as the house is completed. Numerous other enterprises are talked of, and if everything works well there is some tak of trying to get a factory of some kind of locate here. Mr. Lonnie Sadler, of Selma, Ala., was killed last night by the switch engine backing over his body. It seems that he was watching a train backing up and for the moment, not noticing the switch engine, that he was following and while watching, was standing in the middle of the track, and was caught before he could get out of the way. Mr. Sadler had been previously hurt by the engine here, and last night was his first work since he was hurt some few weeks ago. Every one regrets very much the deplorable tragedy, as he was liked by every one that knew him personally. Messrs. D. A. Meek & Co., have rented the old store room of J. N. Roberts and will put in a branch drugstore here. Messrs. Meek & Co., are from West Point, wher ethey have a large wholesale and retail drug store. Artesia Public School will begin next Monday; Mr. J.
