Will of Mrs. A. M. Lowe Will Book A, Page 245 The last will and testament of A M Lowe. I A M Lowe of the county of Madison and state of Mississippi, considering the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death, and being of sound mind and memory do make publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other previously made by me, in manner and form following, to wit Item 1st I give and bequeath unto Joseph Williams Crowell, minor son of my nephew B.F. Crowell, my negros ____ Frank, Louisa, Lewis, Bob Dick and George also my silver ladle, one bed, bedstead and one suit of bed clothes the same ____ to remain in the possession of his father B.F. Crowell until the said Joseph W. Crowell shall arrive at the age of twenty one and also of the future increase of the negros above mentioned, after the arrival of said Joseph W. Crowell to age of twenty one should his father B.F. Crowell be then alive he shall have from that ___ and during his natural life a support out of said property after the death of said B F. Crowell the said Joseph W. Crowell is to manage and convey the same as he thinks proper for himself his heirs and assigns forever. Should the said B.F. Crowell survive his son the said Joseph W. Crowell then in that event the property herein conveyed to them shall remain the property of his father B.F. Crowell. Iten 2nd I give and bequeath unto my nephew Robert Crowell of Arcanas [?] my slaves as follows: Bethany, Ben, Bill, and Kitty and all of their increase to him during his life and at his death to be divided equally among his living children, to them and their heirs forever, also my large silver spoon, one bed & bed clothes to him and his heirs forever. Item 3rd I give and bequeath unto my niece Ann Maria Arrington of N. Carolina, my slaves as follows Penelofar, Sanders, Aam, Silvery, Manny and all of their increase during her life and at her death to her children equally, also one dozen tea spoons. Item 4th I give and bequeath unto my niece M. B. Allen of N. Carolina Viney, Austin, Willis, Voney, Old Silver and Blake if not to be sold before my death or in that event the proceeds of such sale and their increase during her life at her death to her children equally to them and their heirs forever, also one dozen large silver forks. Item 5th I give and bequeath unto my niece Frances A. Falcin of N. Carolina, my slaves as follows Phillis, little Delia, Jacob, & Charlet, if not sold at my death, or in that event the proceeds of such sale, or their increase, to her during her life and at her death to her children equally, also half dozen silver spoons. Item 6th I give and bequeath to my nephew John C. Alston my slaves as follows, Ron, Augustus, Rhody and Lucinda and all of their increase during his life and at his death to his children equally. Item 7th I give and bequeath to my nephew Thomas R. Alston my slaves Henry, Betty and Young Silver, during his life and at his death, to his children equally, if the siad Thomas R. Alston should die without a living heir, the above conveyed property to go to Maria Allen, daughter of C. B. & M. B. Allen with their increase. Item 8 I give and bequeath unto my nephew Gideon Alston of N. Carolina my negro Anthony for his use only during his life and at his death to his lineal heir, and in the event he should die leaving none, to descend to Ann Maria Arrington, daughter of my niece Ann M. Arrington. Item 9 I give and bequeath unto my grandniece Nannie B. Henderson of Mississippi my slave Matilda and her increase during her life and at her death to her children equally, should she die without lineal heirs the said negro and increase to descend to Joseph W. Crowell son of B. F. Crowell, also to the said Nannie B. Henderson one bed & bedding. Item 10 I give and bequeath unto my grandniece Maria Allen my slave Caroline, with her increase from this time. Item 11 I give and bequeath unto my grandniece Maria Arrington my slave Lucy, with her increase from this time. Item 12 I give and bequeath unto my friend Nancy Bennett of NC my gold watch Hook key. Item 13 I give and bequeath unto my friend H. J. M. Daniel of NC my gold spectacles. Item 14 I give and bequeath my bureau and all my clothes to Ballie, daughter of R. P. Crowell. Item 15 I give and bequeath all my capes and stuff to make the same, ribbons or making my rocking chair to my sister in law Elizabeth Crowell. Item 16 I give and bequeath to Ann B. Crowell wife of B. F. Crowell for services rendered me, my new bonnet and cloak. Item 17 I give and bequeath unto my nephew B. F. Crowell for services rendered, my new carriage and horses, and my old carriage I want brought from Canton, or sold there, and the proceeds to my estate, to be divided as hereinafter mentioned. Item 18 It is my request that a monument be created over my grave, & cost from three to four hundred dollars to be paid out of the money accruing my estate. I then wish my household furniture divided between my nephews B. F. & R. P. Crowell except such as is otherwise disposed of. I then desire my stock of all _________ __________ may in ____and for ___________________________proceeds equally divided among my heirs. Lastly I make, constitute, and appoint my nephew B.F. Crowell, my executor to this my last will and testament and desire that no security be required of him in the settlement and management of all the property above bequeathed. In testimony whereof I have set my hand and affixed my seal the 10th day of March 1859 /s/ A. M. Lowe The undersigned witnesses of the above signature of A.M Lowe certified that she signed and acknowledged the same to be her signature to her last will and testament, the same being signed in our presence and our signatures in the presence of each other. /s/ PW Tucker, M.R. Fort State of Mississippi, Madison County} Probate Court April Term AD 1859. Be it remembered that a certain instrument of writing dated the 10th day of March AD 1859 & attested by P. W. Tucker & M. R. Fort as purporting to be the last will and testament of A. M. Lowe, dec’d having been presented for probate at the present term of the court, and P. W. Tucker one of the attesting witnesses thereto, having __ in open court and being duly sworn, stated that the said testator A. M. Lowe did on the 10th day of March 1859 aforesaid seal publish and declare said instrument to be her true last will and testament, and that the other subscribing witness the said M. R. Fort signed said instrument at the request and in the presence of testatrix and in the presence of each of said witnesses when the testatrix at the time of signing sealing and publishing said instrument was a resident citizen of Madison County & over twenty one years of age & of sound and disposing mind and memory on the day and date thereof. Thereupon the ____ being fully confirmed by the court, it is ordered, adjudged and declared the said instrument be established as the true original last will and testament of the said A. W. Lowe, dec’d.
