Will of Enoch Rose, Madison Co., MS, Will Book A In the name of God, Amen. I, Enoch Rose of the County of Madison State of Mississippi being in a low state of health, but of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by my at any time made. First I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary five hundred acres of land to include the place where I now live and such adjoining lands as will be most suitable to make a farm.. And the following Negroes Dennis, Dolly, George, Jim, William, & Sarah. My horse Arab, mare Cate and her two young colts. One fourth of all my cattle and hogs, all my farming utensils and the present growing crop, all of which property both real and personal to be and remain in the possession of my beloved wife for her use and benefit during her natural life and at her death to be divided among her own children. My son William Malls Rose and my daughter Mary Slakes Potteu [?] having already received their portion of my estate an advancement. So I now give and bequeath to my son William ten dollars more of my estate and to the heirs of my daughter Mary S. Potteu ten dollars and no more. I give to my son Paschal Rose the following Negroes, Dave, Charlotte and her four children Martha, Haldale, Victoria and Lucinda at eighteen hundred dollars. I give and bequeath to my daughters, and the lawful heirs of their bodies as follows: to my daughter Rebecca Bennett Old Sarah, Moses and Mary at seven hundred dollars, and a horse and saddle at one hundred dollars which she has already received. To my daughter Elizabeth Greaves Manda and Henry at nine hundred dollars, a horse and saddle at one hundred dollars which she has already received. To my daughter Mary Jane Irwin Sarah Ann and Phillis at eight hundred and fifty dollars, a horse and saddle at one hundred dollars. To my daughter Margaret Rose Isaac, Easter and three of their children Joe, Emily and Calvin at twelve hundred dollars, a horse and saddle at one hundred dollars. I wish and request and hereby fully empower my executors to sell all my estate (not already bequeathed) both real and personal for cash at auction public or private sale as they may think most advantageous to those interested, out of the proceeds of which all my just debts are to be paid then out of the remainder the other heirs (except the said William and Mary’s heirs) with what I have given them to be made equal in amount to what I have given my son Paschal. And the same amount to be set apart for my son John Rose, but as I conceive him incapable of managing and taking care of his portion, I wish his share to be placed in the hands of H. C. Bennett foregoing bond and security for his management and safe keeping the same that he pay the said John five per cent annually on his dividend. The balance of my estate to be equally divided equally among the heirs except (William & the heirs of Mary). And I do hereby constitute my beloved wife Mary executrix, my __ friends Robert Decker and H. C. Bennett executors of this my last will and testament.
