Will and Probate of Elizabeth Smith Filed in Madison Co., MS, probate packet #2273: In the name of God Amen, I Elizabeth Smith of the County of Madison in the state of Mississippi being of sound mind and knowing the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death do make, publish & declare this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other wills by me heretofore made, especially a will made by me April 10th 1873, witnessed by J. B. Greaves, D. Wadsworth, D. Rice and C. L. Thomas. I give and devise to my daughter Mrs. Mary B. Grisham my undivided half interest in certain land I own in Leak Co., Miss described in a deed from Maria- S. Moore to me dated 26th April 1873, and recorded in Deed Book T on page 24 of the records of deeds of that county. The other half interest being now owned by L. F. Grisham husband of the said Mary B. Grisham. All the remainder of my property now situated and being in Madison and Hinds County and consisting of both real and personal property I give and bequeath to my three children Louisianna Martin, Ada B. Crisler, Steven D. Smith and my granddaughter Genia Collum, to each one fourth. But should the said Julia Eugenia Collum die before I do without children, then in that event I wish the one fourth hereinbefore devised to her to be divided equally between said Louisianna Martin, Ada B. Crisler and Steven D. Smith. And should the said Julia Eugenia Collum die before I do and leave a child or children and said child or children should die before I do, then it is my will and desire that the one fourth heretofore devised to the said Julia Eugenia Collum shall be divided equally between said Louisianna Martin, Ada B. Crisler and Steven D. Smith. I hereby nominate and appoint my son-in-law S. J. Crisler my executor & direct that he take charge of my estate and pay my funeral expenses & any other debts I may owe as soon as convenient after my decease. This Sept. 8th 1884. Elizabeth Smith. Personally appeared before the undersigned Justice of the Peace in and for the state and country aforesaid W. H. Potter who being duly sworn states on oath that Mrs. Elizabeth Smith signed the above and foregoing will in his presence and in the presence of W. C. Wells & W. A. Montgomery and that he and the said Wells & Montgomery signed the same in her presence and in the presence of each other, at her request, and that said Elizabeth Smith was then over the age of twenty-one and of sound and disposing mind and memory. Crisler, Executor, filed final accounts settling Elizabeth Smith’s estate in MADISON Co., September 1893. Elizabeth Smith’s obituary appeared in the CANTON PICKET of Jan. 19, 1889. On the 19th of December last, near Flora, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, wife of John A. Smith, in the 79th year of her age. She was an old resident of our county, a devout Christian woman, and her death is deeply deplored. (Elizabeth’s husband, John Anderson Smith, died on 13 Apr. 1870 and is buried at the Old Vernon Cemetery, aka Kearney Cemetery, near Vernon.
