Will of Figures Lowe Book A, page 171 The last will and testament of Figures Lowe of the County of Madison State of Mississippi. I commend my soul to God its Author Item 1st I direct that my estate be kept together and worked at till my debts are paid, Provided they be paid within the ...ensuing after my death; and during the time that my estate is so appropriated ... the payment of my debts. I desire that my beloved wife Ann Marie may enjoy my residence with all privileges necessary for her comfort & be supported herself and family with provisions from the farm and during that time I direct my executors to pay her annually the sum of six hundred dollars. Item 2nd I give in vested interest to be enjoyed on the payment of my debts my estate as follows. To my beloved wife all my household and kitchen furniture, books, jewelry and her watch except the silver spoons which belonged to my first wife, these with my watch I give to my dear daughter Sarah Ann. To my wife also I give my carriage and harnesses and match of carriage horses, my boy Bill whom I purchased of William R Clark of N.Ca., all of the slaves except Austin Which I obtained from ... our marriage together with all increase since that time up to my death, also Daniel the Carpenter this ... one during her life. Item 3rd To my nephew Bartholomew Figures Moore Jr. I give my slaves Austin and his wife Mary and her children & all that may hereafter to be born. Item 4th To my nephew George Boddie Moore, I give my slaves Isaac & his wife Minerva and her children Jonah, Bloint, Basbiun & all that may be hereafter born. Item 5th To my niece Lucy N. Moore I give my boy Madian Item 6th To my niece Ann Marie Moore I give my boy David Item 7th To my nieces Ann Marie and Sarah Moore her sister I give my slaves Jinny Crowell and her children now and hereafter to be born. If either of my nephews or nieces aforesaid should die during my life or afterwards before the age of eighteen or marriage my will and desire is that the property so given to the deceased shall be equally divided between the survivors and the other brothers and sisters if any. Item 8th To Florida Powell I give girl Ann Eliza and all the children that may be born of her. Item 9th To Marsha Powell I give girl Caroline, child of Minerva, and all her issue hereafter born of her. Item 10th To Sarah Powell I give girl Mary Brown and all the children of her hereafter born. Item 11th To Charity L. Powell I give girl Feriny child of Mary Whitetued and all issue of her hereafter born. And if either of the last four named legatees should die during my life or afterwards before the age of eighteen or marriage my will and desire is that the property so given to the deceased shall be equally divided between the survivors & their brothers and sisters. Item 12th If at the end of four years after my death as before provided for my debts are not paid I desire that they be paid out of such of my perishable estate not given away specially as crop, stock and the property which I bought in December 1849 of my brother Bartholomew F. Moore, specifically the slaves which ..specifically bequeathed away or paid out of any other property given to my daughter as she may elect. Item 13th Are the payment of my debts at the end of four years which sooner may first happen, I give during her life to my beloved wife my homestead and its appurtenances including the Cleared parcels of land near the garden grove and the full privilege of getting firewood and timber for ...the entire tract and after during her life as much of the cleared land on this tract as her slaves bequeathed by me can cultivate. Item 14th At the same time, I give to my beloved wife ten mules of medium quality, and plows and other farming instruments suitable and sufficient for her handle the work, five yokes of oxen, five choice milk cows with their young calves and ten head of stock cattle, medium quality, two sows with their pigs & shoats as the case may be, my best waggon and ... with their ... and bodies. Also meat & corn & fodder, oats and peas enough for her family for one year. And my sunth[?] valuitine[?] is during her life & do her farm work without charge , I also give her my sheep. Item 14 I give to Alfred M Moore of Halifax County NC during his ... of himself & wife, and to the survivor during his or her life, and afterward to Mary Moore, their daughter all my interest in the property now in his possession bought by me at his must [?] sale. Item 15 To my dear daughter Sarah Ann, I give devise and bequeath to her and her heirs all the residue of my estate of whatever nature or kind. Item 16 All my debts due me and money on hand are to be applied to the payment of my debts in the first place. Item 17 I hereby constitute and appoint my friends Stephen Lowe and William T. Wiggins The State of Mississippi, Madison County} In the Probate Court of said county at the May term thereof, In the matter of a certain instrument to wit purporting to be the last will and testament of Figuns Lowe, deceased. Be it remembered that at a term of the Probate Court of the County of Madison aforesaid being and held at the Court house in the town of Camden in said county on the 2nd Monday of May 1852 personally appeared in open court Elijah Boddie and Harriet T. Wiggins witnesses who testified that they heard the said Figures Lowe a ... that he signed the written instrument for the purposes therein specified and that he was of disposing mind. It is therefore ordered that the above be recorded as proved this May the 15th 1852. /s/ J.M.
