Will of Henry Ridley State of Tennessee, Rutherford County} County Court August term 1835. At the above term the following paper writing purporting to be the nuncupative will of Henry Ridley deceased was admitted to probate in said court. On Tuesday morning the 23rd day of July was visited Henry Ridley deceased the physician having been sent for in said he was attacked with the cholera but was thought not dangerous at the time in a short time he became worse before __ __ another physician, Dr. Gooch had arrived and __ stated that he had dispatched a messenger for him to __Henry Ridley who arrived between ten and noon o'clock by what time the decease had made rapid progress __ assuming its most malignant form as soon as __ __ and approached the bed side then __ turned towards him and as he clasped his head and said "oh, my brother my brother I wish __ __ that honest task with I want you to write a letter to my wife". On being asked if it was __ __ __ __ of his business he replied __ __ [ large section unreadable ] .... soon after he ___ if he had time he would make a will. __ Ridley __ that if he would mention his __ before the __ __ it would answer as __ as if written that Mr. Keeble was present and understood the nature of such wills so said Ridley that he wished Betsey (his wife) to have the place that he lived on speaking it in the following precise words I wish Betsey to have the place when he was stopped by a by a spasm. After a lapse of a few minutes he was asked what else he wished his wife to have but before he could answer a reoccurrence of the spasm and these continued in quick succession prevented any other discussion on that or any other subject. /s/ George Thompson, Edward S. Keeble, Thomas Smothers And at November term 1835 it appearing to said court that Henry Ridley deceased had made a nuncupative will and instrument was admitted to Probate at August term 1835 and Mevus Ridley having applied for letters of administration with the said __ and he having bond with Parris Morton, Walter Keeble and James Ridley his securities in the sum of one hundred and fifty thousand dollars and qualified according to law to him they are granted.
