Will of John Lowe Sr. Will book A, page 7 dated 17 January, 1832 In the name of God amen John Lowe Sr. of the County of Madison and State of Mississippi being weak in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory considering the certainty of death and __________ of disposing of all the worldly estate which it has pleased God to bless me with do give and bequeath the same in the manner following to wit: 1st I do give and bequeath to my daughter Ann Montgomery her heirs, executors, administrators three slaves namely Dinah, Little Sucky and Little Carter. 2nd I do give and bequeath to my daughter Patsy Barrows three slaves Jack, Old Carter and Nanny, and at her death to be equally divided between her three young children to wit Louisford, Betsy, and Sally. Also another negro boy ___ by the name Joab the son of Jack and Phillis. 3rd I give and bequeath to my son Fred__tt Lowe and his heirs forever two eighths of land situated in said County of Madison purchased of Allen Jenkins, also the eighth of land on where I now reside and their appurtenances and also three negro boys namely Lewis, Edward and Boon and my double barreled gun. 4th I give and bequeath to the heirs of my daughter Sarah Montgomery four negroes to wit Ben, a negro woman named Clarissa and her two children named Jesse and Bob to them share and share alike. 5th I give and bequeath to my daughter Rebecca Garver [?], her heirs, executors and administrators one negro named Jane, one negro woman Ann and her two children to wit Sorfina, sometimes called Philoe and Jackson. 6th I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary Risman [?] for her natural life a negro boy named Willis and a negro woman named Leu and her two children named Abraham and Henry and at her death to be equally divided between her children share and share alike. 7th I give and bequeath to my daughter Linda Felder, her heirs executors and administrators two negro women to wit Hannah and Onay. Also a negro man named John. 8th I give and bequeath to my son John Lowe and his heirs executors and administrators forever all my lands in Madison County except for the two eighths bought of Allen Jenkins and the eighth on which I now reside. 9th I give and bequeath to my grand daughter Elizabeth Adams two negroes named Silva and her child Washington. 10th I do give to Betsy Lowe Felder one negro woman named Big Sucky and her child Elijah and in case she should die without as heir it is my will that the said negroes should go to Linda Felder and her heirs. 11th I give to my grand daughter Betty McClary [?] one negro woman ___ by the name of Yellow Lucy. 12th It is my will that my executors herein after named sell my crops of cotton and corn during the year 1831, my stock of horses, cattle, hogs and my working tools and household furniture of every description, ________ the proceeds of said sale be applied as follows. First for the payment of my debts and the balance ____ that may remain after the payment of my debts dispose of as follows, I wish ____ I give to different ___ and one half of what is left I give to my grand son Francis Lowe and the remainder I wish equally divided among my children. 13th I give to my son John Lowe one negro man named Samson. 14th It is my wish that Dennis and Phobe the two negroes lately purchased of Peter Weis be sold and the proceeds of said sale be equally divided among my children share and share alike. 15th It is my will that my executors do not proceed to divide or distribute the above mentioned property or sell that part directed to be sold except the crop of 1831 till the crop of the present year be made and gathered. 16th It is my will that the crop that my be made on my plantation during the present year may be equally divided among my children. 17th It is my will that my executors continue Abraham Caraway as manager of my plantation and hands during the present year and that the written contract now existing between us may be fulfilled. Lastly it is my will that Hardin D. Russell and Montford Jones be appointed executors of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this seventeenth day of January 1832.
