Will of John W. Boddie Will book A, page 394 State of Mississippi} I John W. Boddie of Madison County & State of Mississippi do hereby make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills made by me. In the first place I desire to be interred (my body) in a metallic coffin it to be __ ____ otherwise in plain oak or pine or walnut ____ be interred by the side of my brothers in the graveyard at Jackson or in my orchard, as my relations may think fit & that from one thousand to fifteen hundred dollars be appropriated for interment, stone fixtures wherever convenient . Secondly my debts to be paid. Thirdly I give all my estate both real and personal except such bequests as I may name below to my nephews, sons of my brother George Boddie, Willis P. Boddie & Nicholas V. Boddie & to the sons of my brother ___ Wilson B. Boddie & Wm. R. Boddie. Fourthly I give one thousand dollars of the proceeds of said estate after the debts are paid to my nephews Andrew Cru__ one thousand dollars to my nephew William Cru__ , five hundred to my niece Lucy ___, five hundred dollars to my niece Lucy G. Moore & one thousand each to my nephews Bob & George Moore, five hundred dollars each to my ____ _____ William R. Boddie. Fifthly I appoint my brothers George Boddie, Willis Boddie & Nicholas Boddie to be executors [of my estate ____ ] one or both be dead my brother Nicholas V. Boddie of N. Carolina or should they not wish to be troubled with its settlement I would nominate my friend R. A. Black to be selected at some reasonable fixed salary to see the said property executed. Sixthly I give to my negro men Jonas & Corry and to my woman Cissy ten dollars cash every year as long as they may live & recommend their good treatment. In testimony of the above written I the said John W. Boddie have and witnessed before Willis P. Boddie, John T. Sorsby & Peter S. Virden who at my request have signed the same as subscribing witnesses in my presence. /s/ John W. Boddie Signed sealed published and declared by J. W. Boddie as his last will and testament on 3rd November 1863 in our presence and at said Boddie's request we now sign the same as subscribing witnesses. /s/ John T. Sorsby, W. P. Boddie, P. S. Virden State of Mississippi, Madison County} The foregoing writing purporting to be the last will and testament of John W. Boddie deceased was this day presented in open court and thereupon came John T. Sorsby, Willie P. Boddie, and P. L. S. Virden subscribing witnesses thereto who each made oath that he signed said writing in the presence and at the request of the said John W. Boddie - he the said John W. Boddie did say said writing to be his last will and testament and that he had signed the same as such. Said John W. Boddie they each really believe said writing and their signatures thereto to be in the proper hand writing of the said John W. Boddie deceased. Said subscribing witnesses being further interrogated on oath say that at the time of their signing said writing in the presence & at the request of the said John w. Boddie, he the said John W. Boddie was of sound & disposing mind & memory. It is therefore ordered and adjudged and decree the said foregoing writing be and the same as hereby established as the last will and testament of the said John W.
